Accepting Paypal, Ban Bet9ja/Gambling In Nigeria.

There are lots of things that are banned in Nigeria and I'd love to unban them, but I'm just gonna share some and pick one…

Source

In 2018 I had the privilege of working online remotely, but was denied the job because Nigeria does not accept payment with paypal. In Fact most of the jobs i found online pay through paypal in which case i could not apply for them. Aside from this issue, most international online platforms do not accept the country Nigeria to work for them including Medium..

This actually caused a gap, most citizens hide their identity with VPN in order to be granted access to use the services of a platform. Not witstanding we Nigerians hide our locations using VPN because of the criticisms we get from other countries if they found out we are from Nigeria, it's sort of embarrassing actually, it's more or less like we ain't proud of our country Nigeria..

Recently Nigeria also banned the use of paying and receiving crypto currency in banks. The worst part is most banks in Nigeria dont allow the use of naira debit or credit card for online international transactions.

I find this one quite annoying because I do most of my shopping online internationally. I had to open a domiciliary account that took almost 3 months to get approved and activated just so I could get a debit card for paying USD.

Not to mention, the fact that Nigeria banks don't even accept buying dollars over the counter. The only access of getting dollar is through black market which is extremely expensive

Take a Pick

Well for one outta of these the most annoying ban i find frustrating. Is most companies not dealing with Nigerians to work for them online and remotely, if however some manage to then their only option of payment is with paypal and nothing else . Well Maybe because they find the country Nigeria as the third in the world infested with scammers.

I'll give anything for this ban to be uplifted as it has made lots of Nigerians lose job opportunities working online as a means of surviving. And The fact that paypal doesn't accept payment in Nigeria makes most use VPN to open a payment account, eventually this might become an issue if paypal finds out they're from a banned country and seek verification, definitely whatever amount of funds they have in there will be gone and seized forever.

Picking a ban

Bet9ja, 1xbet, and virtual gambling have become popular games all over the world, especially in Nigeria. where most people claim to put food on their table. But I find this statement a lazy and jobless man slogan.

There was a time, I was dead broke, a guy I know bought most of his predictions, sold a game to me and told me to play it with 5000 naira, winning 200000 thousand naira. It was a juicy offer, besides "all his predictions were damn right so no loss for me" I foolishly thought. I played it and guess what? I lost my hard earned 5000 naira to the cold hands of bet9ja. I had to go broke for an additional 2 weeks…

There was even a time I also lost in the casino game i went to play in shoprite, with my last card hoping to win extra..

Gambling has become a means of surviving yes but it has also become a means of financial losses especially if that obsession becomes an addiction, then stopping gambling will be next to impossible.. I for sure stopped it from becoming an habit and an obsession.

Lots of people might have gone through the same experience as i have, some even take up loans just to gamble, the lucky ones win the game and recover all their money back with an extra, but if they are greedy and addicted they put the whole money back in, that is when they finally lose and go broke.

The whole country is under economic and financial downgrade, with the inflation of prices and items, still you'll see men trooping in and out of bet9ja shops or any gambling shop.

The most annoying part is them holding a roll of paper like tissue protecting it with their life waiting and hoping the game they played entered..

So yeah if there's one thing I'm scrambling out of Nigeria it will be Bet9ja and gambling as a whole.. I think men will put their money to proper use if gambling is banned..

Till we read again, kudos!

i was surprised to see that nigeria was banned from Paypal I wonder what happened

Well last i heard it was because of the mass rate of scammers in Nigeria. They were using it as a gateway in deefruading . That's Nigeria always has a way of spoiling opportunities..

Please they should come ohh so i can preach to them to repent from bet9ja 🤣🤣

The situation is sad indeed, but unfortunately, there were precedents to get to this point. Any bank, any business cares about their profit and the more scammers and fraud in a country, the higher the chance for the country to be banned. Unfortunately Nigeria has a very bad reputation, so I don't know who would risk their money lifting these bans. Sad, but it's the truth.

In my country there is a saying that says he who plays by necessity loses by obligation, I know that there are many people experienced in making easy money, without thinking that the losses can increase their needs. Paypal is frequently used in Venezuela, but many times it is difficult to verify the account and many, like me, can not make use of it, sometimes they even ask you to associate it to an international credit card, and there are people who sell you the credit card number.

Here there are many lotteries and up to 5 times a day, 1XBET is booming. I play lottery from time to time, there is a game of chance called Kino, but it is legal and it is broadcasted on TV, there is another one that is also broadcasted called Triple Gordo. There is also a lot of betting on horse races, I even know people who have been ruined by this. The prizes vary between 50,000 dollars and 1,000,000,000 dollars, I have not seen anyone win the million dollars yet, but the 50,000 dollars yes. In the end I prefer to work and not waste money on gambling.

It's disheartening how some Nigerians have dent the image of the country and everyone is now seen as a criminal. You made the right choice with PayPal as it would give people the opportunity to work virtually across the world.

About Sport bet, I don't know oooo. It has ruined more lives than it has helped and just hope people are being careful with how they gamble.

Nigeria didn't ban PayPal, it's actually the other way around: PayPal banned us and that's because of Nigeria's bad reputation for fraud. I have also lost a lot of deals because of PayPal banned, I just hope they will unban us one day in the future
