New Beginnings, New Resolutions

Goals!!!

New Year Resolutions!!!

It's the new year again, and these keywords are surely going to grace our eyes hehe. We hear most people talk about the things they intend to achieve this year 2024, the habits they intend to either cultivate or put a stop to, these and so many more are the thoughts that fill most people at this time of the year.

Goals and or new year resolutions could be likened to plans or targets we set out to accomplish over a given period of time.

But even after setting these goals, there could be times when you don't meet most of them as planned, especially as the year begins to come to an end. What happens when this is the case? do you get yourself all worked up over the fact that you weren't able to meet up with your goal? Do you give up? What exactly do you do?

I remember a few years ago when I was much younger and had to make a New Year's resolution to make sure to study my lessons from school every weekend, I tried for the first month, and then that was it, I gradually began to relax and just study when I felt like. At some point towards the end of the year, when I took a look at the list of resolutions I had made, I was not so proud, the reason being that I was not able to achieve them, I was heartbroken, but I consoled myself, and promised to do better the next year

Well here's what I'll do, or what I've had to do over the years when I don't get to meet up with my goals.

First of all, I would pat myself on the back for those goals I was able to meet, celebrate my little wins in those different areas, this will then give me the required energy and momentum to handle those goals I wasn't able to meet up with.

Furthermore, I would try to do a thorough evaluation of the goals I had previously set, if they were SMART, more like Specific, Measurable, Achievable, and Time-bound. My evaluation will be mainly on how attainable my goals were, if they were something that I could actually achieve within the time frame I had mapped out for it because sometimes we actually set unrealistic goals within a short time frame that cannot be achieved, this is one way I would evaluate myself.

Moreso, after checking if my goals were SMART, I would then try to find out what went wrong, was it something I didn't do, something I neglected, or is it that life happened along the way, because trust me when I say there are times that you get to do everything within your means, but don't get to achieve something you set out to achieve due to unforeseen circumstances, so that would also be put into consideration.

Again, I would take the time to restrategize, find a way to break down my goals into simpler bits, to enable me to achieve them all gradually but surely.

Finally, I'll put in the effort to make sure I achieve what I have set out to achieve. I know it might not be easy, but it is better I try and make conscious efforts, than not do anything.

This is my response to @kenechukwu97 prompt.

I will agree with you that some goals are not SMART, there are many times people make that mistake.

I love your reaction. It is something a mature one would do. Perfect. Nice one

I like how the first thing you would like to do is to look at your Wins and celebrate those. It's a really interesting approach to take and I can imagine how helpful that would be.

It helps you to stay balanced between the positive and negative emotions. Celebrating the little wings can also give you a push to look into what went wrong in the goals that were not achieved.

I like how you will still choose to make efforts to make things right instead of allowing yourself to wallow in self pity.

Thank you @kenechukwu97 celebrating your little wins gives you that positive approach, more like you aced some, so can do the same for the others, if you take a different approach next time.

Setting unrealistic goals can actually be a reason for not seeing expected results within a particular time frame. As long as we remember that year 2024 is part of our journey and not the destination, it becomes easier to reevaluate our goals and restrategize for optimum results. From #dreemport

Celebrating the goals you were able to achieve is very thoughtful of you, that alone is capable of boosting you to do better with your new goals.

After celebrating, going back to the drawing board to see why some of our goals weren't achieved is very important. It's best to check thoroughly and come up with a new approach to those goals.

You are on point. Celebrating your wins matters instead of whining when things don't work out.

Be proud of what you have achieved and look for ways to make others work after getting to know why they didn't get to work before. Re-evaluation!

Yess. I think you and I were thinking the same thing when we jumped on this challenge. I also do not believe that you should beat yourself up just coz things didn't go as planned. Restrategizing is a good way to find out what went wrong. It's like a blueprint that tells you what's next.

I enjoyed your post dreemer.

Being focused on your goals in the first few months and then abandoning them later on is very common I pray this year is different.

I hope we all achieve the goals we set out the year

Goals and life are like an adventure. Unknown and unpredictable. Even if the road gets bumpy, it's essential to celebrate the miles you've covered. It may look hard but it's only mindset. This way we can stay motivated and continue forward.
