Hi there and welcome to my vlog, my name is Erik Gustafsson and I go by the handle @flaxz on DTube, CTPtalk and Hive.

Translated Subtitles - Adding Alternative Source - Viewer Request

In this video I talk about an email I got today from a viewer who did not understand English, and therefore had problems getting the information from my videos.

This is why I have decided to also add Youtube as an alternative source to my upload on DTube, that way there will be a version with translated subtitles since Youtube can add those automatically.

That being said, I do not know how fast they get added, nor how well they work, but I did get some good feedback on that in the fall of 2019 from a Spanish speaker who was able to use it and understand my videos.

As it turns out you need to go to the DTube website to watch the alternative source,

I have to admit, that I also use YT subtitles when I watch some videos there... It would be nice to see something similar on 3speak, LBRY, or D.Tube, but I suppose that "voice recognition algorithm" isn't some easy script... But, with time, I'm sure it would be implemented...

Thanks Zoltan, and yeah both DTube and 3speak does have some more immediate things to work on before even considering that, but it would be great if they could add it in the future.

YouTube started its journey a long time ago. Hope we will see the similar features on blockchain-based video sharing platforms.

I'm curious to check this out, really. I know there are apps allowing to add subtitles to our videos, but I had no idea something was being done automatically by Youtube.
I must say this is half good- half bad news, because as a native French speaker and fluent enough in English I can tell google's translations are not always reliable... and sometimes even dangerously misleading. It's good enough when you know at least a little bit of another language, but more like "cross your fingers" when you don't know a single word of that language. I'd say : use with caution...
Btw, I wanted to message you on CJ, but saw you hadn't activated messenging. So I'll just let you know that your post about his video has been super spammed, and that you can delete the spammers' comments. I would highly recommend you do so before spam comments receive mindless likes... :( You stay awesome, Erik. Have a great weekend!

Thanks Chris, and yeah hopefully it will be good enough, but as you said mistranslations can happen, and thanks a lot for the heads up about those spam comments, I have removed them, and also found the setting for messaging and activated it.
