What a Gift it would be... Chapter 1

A couple of days ago i discovered an initiative or challenge if you wish through a post i read from @trumpman. The actual idea came out from @silverd510 and the gist is to create 12 consecutive posts about silver coins that you would like to receive as a present for Christmas.

Even though i am quite a noob in the silver-gold coin sector, as i have only 2 silver coins, the first one you can find here and the second one which i bought a couple of days ago here. The goal is to buy 2 more during 2024 and through that challenge i will also challenge myself on the 2 following:

  1. I will try to create something like a wishlist here and hopefully during 2024 i will be able to buy one of these 12 coins. I believe that by taking part in the contest today it's quite ideal given that my last post will be during Christmas!
  2. I will try to keep any HBD that i will accumulate by creating these 12 posts and either add some more and buy a silver coin from someone in the community or in the best case scenario i will generate the entire amount without adding more! Let's see what i will manage to do and also let's start presenting the first coin that i would like to receive as a gift.

Medusa – The Great Greek Mythology 2000 Francs

Apparently this coin is part of a collection called Great Greek Mythology, weighs 2 oz and is silver with a purity of .999. As you can see the front shows a pretty awesome sculpture-like form of Medusa with her snake-like hair and people running around scared. In the back as you can see below there is Olympus and ofc olive leaves. This coin is quite amazing but a bit expensive for me as it costs around 220-260 euros and it comes with a wooden box along with the certificate.

Now besides the fact that i really like and the fact that i am Greek so i feel a bit closer to the art and history let's say, Medusa is quite the mythological creature that many people don't actually know all the myths around her.

So we all know that she is a Monster that turns people into stone but what is her story and was always a monster? One myth says that yes pretty much she was a monster but another myth and all of these myths come from poets, writers and such says the following. Medusa was actually a virgin priestess of Goddess Athena who was actually way too pretty and had awesome hair.

Poseidon basically wanted her, she said no but as a god had the upper hand and violated her inside the shrine. Athena was quite furious and because she couldn't do anything to Poseidon she decided to punish Medusa just because she got violated by a god. She made her into a monster and turned her magnificent hair into snakes.

Then the story with Perseus took place and the rest is history, or ancient history if you wish. Thus, knowing a bit more about Medusa, her origins and the end and watching this coin doesn't make you a bit more intrigued and you feel like obtaining it? At least that's what's happening with me! See you all tomorrow with my next coin!

I wouldn't be too concern with all the rules, I haven't been consecutive and I wont make it to 12 posts but have some fun showing the silver or gold of our dreams. And throw in a few easy ones that you need to fill a hole in your collection.😄

Hi there Filo, good to see you over here at the Silver Bloggers Community...

We do suggest though, that this is not quite a fit and/or not a topic that jives for us. May i ask you to go and read what we are all about, maybe you'll find yourself, that the Silver Bloggers Community doesn't fit your preferred topics?! No worries, there are many more in the Hive, you'll find a complete list on Hives Communities Page.

Thank you for your understanding!
