POS in Taxis, Farmer's Markets and Kiosks

Reading some news, most of which are about wars, poverty, killings and such, i read about today being the last day for people to own a Taxi, participate in Farmer's Markets or have a Kiosk to integrate a POS as a way of payment. In case you don't know what this is, it's the device that you can use to pay with your card instead of cash.

If there is no POS in any of the above businesses then there will be a fee of 500 to 1500 euros. Now let me give you my take on that. First of all, i get that one of the reasons that this is happening and it's happening everywhere, i mean in many countries, it's because the governments let's say want to find a more transparent paying system.

They want to do that because there are many people out there who earn money without being taxed for it. Many employers do that as well in order once again to pay less and a lot of employees don't say anything because either that way they can earn more money or simply because they are afraid of losing their job.

Now even though i am positive for more transparency i don't like the way things are done at least in my country. For example, on the one hand, you want transparency in payment methods but simply say that in a couple of months, everybody needs to accept a card or something doesn't actually solve the problem. ****The real issue behind that is bank payments****.

In order to understand the corruption in the country, not only business owners but basically everyone should conduct more card payments instead of cash ones. If for example, you do that, the transaction can be followed and when the time for your taxes will come you don't pay a fine or something. For some reason, if you don't spend like 20%-30% of your money through card payments you are supposed to lie to the government and have an additional stream of income that you keep hidden.

To give you an example of the hypocrisy in that, someone can work and still live with their parents as renting a house has been quite expensive these years. Thus, it's very likely to have more money, but based on the government if he/she doesn't 20%-30% of their total income they will be fined.

Now as i said the bank payment system doesn't help the business owners, in fact, it does the exact opposite and all of these people are constantly raising their voices but nobody pays any attention to them. Take into account that in Greece, 99% of the businesses are considered small/family-owned ones so we are not talking about big corporations.

So each time let's say any consumer buys 1kg of potatoes or a couple of chocolates if the consumer pays with cash let's say 10 euros, they will keep 10 euros and deduct their usual costs and have a certain profit. Now if you do the exact same thing but pay with a card, the business owner will have to add an extra cost, the banking cost due to the transaction in his/her costs. Do you realize how bad this is?

With the same price tag let's say 10, if you pay with cash the total profit for the business owner can be let's say 5, but if you pay for the exact same product, with a card, the profit can be 4.5. If that isn't straight theft which shows that governments are pretty much corrupted i don't know what is it. Then most likely the business owners, which is happening by the way, will increase their initial prices, or straight up tell you that they prefer cash. At the same time, the big corporations don't even get taxed, or taxed close to nothing because they know what they are doing, google Amazon for example!

Well the government has made their point clear and I believe it has really helped reduce corruption in some way. Thanks for the news on this POS system
