Shopping for Creative Supplies

I am needing to make some summer items of clothing. The factory where I work is getting a bit warm for jeans. I will probably make long shorts. Skirts are a potential hazard around some of the machinery at work. Hobby Lobby had some khaki and some camo on clearance for $5 a yard. They also had 99 cent zippers.

I also found some raffia for 60 cents. I will use this in gift wrapping. Other purchases were a bag of cotton loops for weaving and, finally, a small bottle of model paint that is a close match for touching up my vintage sewing machines.

Now I am home with my $35 worth of stuff and am ready to get going on my projects.

Yes, I started acquiring vintage Kenmore sewing machines. It started with one deal on ebay so I could teach myself some service and repair skills. Now I have 3--one fully restored as my main machine, one more portable (but still sturdy) machine, and one I am still fixing. Eventually I will give the extras to family or perhaps sell one--so I can get another to fix up. These older mechanical machines are the best ever made. !CTP

Oh, Wow Kim, that is so awesome! Were they a good deal? I am not surprised that the older machines are much better. Anything that is made now is terrible! Nothing seems to last very long. Especially head phones, electronics, tripods for cell phones broke in less than a month. It's terrible. I'm so glad that you have nice sewing machines. !BBH !CTP

Deals can be found, although shipping costs can be a real killer (these machines are heavy.) I can patiently wait for deals that I can pick up within an hour's drive or so. Most of the old non-computerized machines can be awakened with simple lubrication and some heat to get the old, hardened oil loose again. It's a joy to take something people thought was broken and get it humming again with just a few screwdrivers and a bottle of oil. !PIZZA

Yes, Kim, the shipping is terribly expensive now. @fiberfrau how wonderful to be able to get a machine working again with only screwdrivers and oil. Oiling and fixing a few loose or missing places on a machine sounds wonderfully simple 😊 !BBH !CTP
