My Professor Journey and What I have Learnt So Far

I have been opportune to work in different organizations while building a career path. While doing my industrial training (IT) I worked in a pension company. While I was there I worked in the investment department, I was the youngest in the department and I was the only person that own the lowest certificate. Some of the people I work with (All my boss) own masters in one field of studies while other own Ph.D already. At a point I inferior and overwhelmed by their achievements, but they never treated me like an inferior.

One thing I learnt there was that, if you are working in a good working environment and you have good people surrounding you, no matter how tedious the job may be, you would enjoy the job because the people there are a source of joy to you.

Another thing I have learnt is that, in a well structured working environment, you shouldn’t have too many close or best friends. You can have one or two people you talk to during work hour or after work but being friends with everyone in the organization can get you in trouble. An organization that has a set structure of hierarchy doesn’t support keeping too much friends that I can tell you. It’s all about getting work done and moving the goals of the organization forward.

Another thing I have learnt in my career pursuit is that there is no seniority in age when it comes to professions. I will share a short story with you all.

I started working in a biomedical firm newly in march 2023 and this firm is a well structured company. I was in the administrative department, it was a nice place to be. You get your own desk and laptop to do what ever you want to do especially things that pertain to the organization. I sometimes use the laptop to do my Hive business since I do have some free time.

The head of the department is a very beautiful young lady, at first she was very nonchalant of me, always sending me on errand anytime she sees I’m free or have nothing to do. She would ask me to take stock of asset or material in the store. I never liked her at first. At a point I got to know she was 3 years younger than me and this really upset me.

During all those time she was always sending me on errand and making me do odd jobs, I learnt so many things from her because I was working directly under her, I got to understand that there is no age when it comes to work.

My boss

So long the person above you is your boss and has more experience than you in that field, even if you’re 10 years older than your boss you still have to respect them.

One thing I know is that when it comes to career and professionalism, there are certain things one have to overlook if they want to go higher. If you still get offended when you are criticized or corrected, then you’re not read to learn or move further. In pursuit of career, you have to let go of your pride and let humility be seen in you.

You have to align yourself with people that have the same dreams as you if you want to be a step ahead. You need to follow people that are already doing better than you in that career path and watch how they do it to make it big.

These are some of the amazing things I have learnt
