A life worth reflecting on{inkwell nonfiction prompt #33}

Being the class representative is not a child play and the responsibility that comes with is like that that of spider-man

With great power comes great responsibility.

2021 was a great year when I was still the class representative of over 650 students. The job wasn't so easy because I have to manage 650 mature adult student in a higher institutes. I have to report to the lecturers, make sure the students gets their assignment on time, and get things ready before any lectures begins.

Getting to class first and leaving last was already telling on my health, I wasn't paid for the job because it was a voluntary service to serve for the best interest for the class.
My dad do tell me

If you want to lead you must first serve.

I do want to be a good leader in the future so I brought myself down to serve my fellow student. The reflection I had of myself was like that of a servant because I get talk down by both students and lecturers.

There was a day I was so sick and a lecturer fixed a test on a Saturday, I tried talking to him to make the test the following week but he refused so I had to inform the class of our upcoming test. I got all sort of negative comment like.

• why can't you tell him we had other things to do on Saturday
• I know you like school so much, why don't you write the test for us all
• If you know you can't represent us well, why don't you quit

I guess they were all angry but I was more angry. At that point, I called a friend and told her I would like to quit my role as the class representative because I don't think I can take the insult anymore.

She told me not to because there are people who look up to me and I am the reflection of a leader to them, they might not say a thing but my effort hasn't gone unnoticed. It felt like it was all a joke but the fact is that many of my course mate pictured me as a great leader. It was on our graduation day most of them told me how they felt and how they would miss me.

It been 9 month since we all graduated and I decided to send a check up message to most of them to see how they are doing and the response I got gave me a new picture of myself.

This is just few of the many that I got. At a point I felt like a father with many children who came with words of appreciation. Now I see myself more than what I saw before, the picture I have about myself now has changed drastically.
