THE VARIANCE BETWEEN COST OF LIVING

Source

I'm so excited to be amongst the participants of this third edition of the weekly prompts from this beautiful community. I had to take a deep breath before attempting to write something looking at the theme for discussion. I kept wondering how would I compare the cost and prices of things between my country and others? Hmmmm I have never been to any other country physically except through geography where my secondary school teacher brought a world map and asked us to touch any country of our choice. Furthermore, I read a lot about other countries through books, platform like this and some personal testimonies from friends.

I'm quite sure that there's a serious global change in things presently though this is my personal assertion. I doubt whether there's any part of the world currently that hasn't experienced a quantum change either physically or otherwise. The changes may have some levels however the bottom lines remains there's a change. To do justice to the subject for this edition, I would like to draw a little comparison between my lovely country Nigeria and the country where my best friend Currently lives called Scotland. Whatever I'm going to share here might not be accurate please because I might not be able to recall all the things we discussed some times back last year.

To be candid the cost of living in Nigeria is far cheaper than many other countries and I also believed there are other countries cheaper than Nigeria. All these variances could be due to certain factors or peculiarities. Apparently my beautiful country under the scale of development could be classified as a developing country whereas Scotland and many others could be regarded as a developed country. Based on this there's no a crystal discrepancy. In Nigeria, the cost for renting a house is very cheap. There are houses for virtually all social categories here in Nigeria. For instance, the house where I live I pay less than ₦100,000 annually and this is an average accommodation base on my location and the region. Unlike in Scotland where my friend told me he pays monthly and most of the utility bill is calculated in hours. The amount of money for the month could settle rent here in Nigeria for either one or two years.

Comparing the prices of goods and services the same yardstick could be consider here just like I clearly stated previously. Goods here are very expensive in Nigeria because we are more of a consuming country than producing nation. It's clear that you can't really compete with a country that is into manufacturing and harnessing all resources to a country who doesn't produce but leverage on what others produced. The more you produce, the less the price of those commodity. The nature of the developed economy makes most of these countries stand out ahead of others. In Scotland as I was told you get paid in hour after any service rendered. Unlike Nigeria where the payment mode is monthly.

My earnings here in Nigeria can't afford me everything I would need to stay in other country at all. For instance the transportation alone, I need some millions of naira to prepare documents and land my self over there. The value of our currency differs by far hence this will make life a bit difficult for me. If I had the chance to go, my income here can't sustain me instead I must seek for an alternative source of income. It will require more extra work to gain balance in the new country.

Would I like to relocate? Well I am never in a rush to relocate to any country at a moment because I'm purpose driven. I don't just do things for doing sake rather I consider purpose above everything. If the lord instructs that I should leave Nigeria and move to another country for next assignment oh yes I will gladly do that. There's difference between the country where I live and other countries.

This is my entry for week 108 edition 3 of hive learners contest.

Thanks for visiting and reading through.

The economy in other countries are organized but there is just so annoying here in Nigeria especially the private sector where they want to get the best from you but the pay is peanut.

Truly what we earn here in Nigeria can't sustain us over there, but they have a working system better than what we have here, your choice though to stst here, if only our government were dependable, no one would think of leaving our dear nation.

Very correct sir. We are just consumers and we don't care to produce.

Our government fail to understand the importance of production, the new government is even making things worst. Forcing the fee companies we have here to close down.

Here in my country Venezuela rents are very high, and even buying a house is very expensive. Inflation strangles our pockets and we are an oil country with many years of development. At this time the bad monetary policies affect us all and if I compare prices with other countries, I lose out. I thank God that we are a people that always faces adversities! .
