The Sunshine Sisters by Jane Green

This book wasn't my favorite although it was a decent book. It explored the story of 3 sisters who didn't have the best childhood as their mother was Ronni Sunshine. She was an actress that was more focused on her acting career than her children. Later she realized that she had ALS (a disease that causes your nerve cells to break down so you wouldn't be able to function properly) and decided that although her relationship with her daughters wasn't the best, she should at least try to fix their relationships with each other.

The book starts off with Ronni in bed explaining her idea and then showing some of the most important moments of the sisters lives. It explores how the sisters grew up estranged from their mother and how they ended up hating each other. It also explores the unique problems of each of the sisters. Then the book finally gets to the part where their mom decides to call them all together to tell them that she was dying. This part of the book wasn't as big as I expected it to be.

I felt like this book didn't do the best at fixing the problems. The book started out with explaining how Ronni wanted to fix the girls problems and make them closer with each other except the only time when the mother tries to fix their relationships with the world was one or two paragraphs to each sister. The sisters instead just ended up sharing their problems and getting closer? It didn't make too much sense to me as they never really discussed the issues that made them dislike each other in the first place. I also didn't like a few characters as I wasn't the biggest fan of Meredith or Lizzy and although Meredith ended up having a little more confidence in herself , I feel like Lizzy didn't change much. This book is something that I would say you could read if you had nothing else to read but not something that I would actively look forward to.
