herøy and the seven sisters
herøy was the last island on our day trip. the island itself is rather flat but has great views of the seven sisters mountains on the island to the east, alsta.
except for the exposed southwest, the island is in calm seas thanks to the outer islands
so it is a popular spot especially in the summer
there are many permanent residents who either work here or take the ferry to the city of sandnessjøen
to the north there are nice views of dønnamannen
but the views of the seven sisters
are outstanding
yet to a first-time visitor perhaps the best part
is the ferry ride to alsta with an unparalleled vista of the sea
and the islands
the seven sisters are not particularly high
the highest being botnkrona at 1072 meters above sea level
and though they are quite steep rising up so close to the sea
there are trails to each peak
and from peak to peak. it is a prestigious feat to climb all seven
if you sign the notebook at each peak, you can even get a certificate for the accomplishment. however the highest prestige goes to those who climb all seven in one go.
for me that will have to be in another life. i am very content to enjoy the ferry ride.
and at the end of it we stop at the dock in sandnessjøen and celebrate the day, the summer and life with an ice cream.
that concludes my series of posts from our fantastic trip.
this is the twentieth and final post in a series of photos i took on the Helgeland coast in Norway at the end of August.

Super
thanks a lot
Seven Sisters would be a challenging hike to complete in one day unless extremely fit with knowledge of the region.
Rock formation from old glacial ice movement leaving a rippled effect permanently on the earth.

thanks so much for the tipu. that hike is indeed very challenging but there is a trail connecting the peaks and many ambitious hikers have been on all the tops though far fewer in one go. being so far north it does not get dark in june and july and the prospect of seeing the midnight sun from one of the peaks makes it particularly attractive.
Watching the midnight sun from on top would be interesting and fun going in a group.
North has a beauty all of it's own.
indeed. we had a wonderful trip.

yes they are a sight to behold, especially from the sea
thanks for stopping by
What a lovely place and you took some amazing photos.
thanks for your kind reply. our trip exceeded our expectations. that part of the coast is famous for bad weather but we were very lucky and got sunshine most of the time and dramatic skies and rain occasionally.

I don't think there is a person who hasn't thought for a moment that they would like to be there. beautiful, meditative, well done!
