back in india

a couple of weeks ago we left Norway and are now at our house in India. this is my contribution to FungiFriday by ewkaw

In the garden there are some chopped conifer logs loaded with these fungi. they are likely a kind of mazegill that grows on tropical conifers. otherwise they could be turkey tails Trametes versicolor or some other species of Trametes.

i am not familiar enough with the fungi here to be positive and these are very old and dry

so far these photos are of ones that have been in the shade

but most of the logs are in the bright sun most of the day and it hasn't rained here for a few months. they look pale and sun-bleached

but i was watering the garden when i took these shots so i splashed some water on those in the shot above and they changed dramatically

they freshen up quickly with just a splash

but when we arrived they appeared covered with conifer needles and dust

the low afternoon sun shone on the underside of a few that happened to be positioned just right

the local people eat these during monsoon season when they are young

but i suspect they are a bit leathery compared to what we are used to in Norway

if anybody can positively identify these i would love to hear it. it is even possible the first 3 photos are a different species than the rest

anyway i am going to water these some more and see what happens. the logs are infested so with some moisture some new ones may spring out
