a gray day on the coastal path

november is a gray month here. any day that is not raining and blowing is a good day. the sun rarely comes out so we make the best of it.

actually these days provide very good conditions for photography where too much contrast can be an issue. while the colors are not brilliant they are pleasantly muted

today's walk is along a section of the coastal path in Larvik between two rocky coves: Ødegaardsbukta and Kloppsandbukta bukta means the cove.

ancient glaciers have sculptured the rocks and there are many potholes

and other magical formations

this late in the season most of the green plants have gone to seed and turned brown but despite the snow we had a while back there has not been much ice

the autumn storms wash up a lot of seaweed on the shore and it mixes in well with the colorful rocks.

have you ever noticed how no matter what colors nature blends it always seems to work.

i don't think i have ever come across a natural setting where the colors don't match well.

some folks gather some of the seaweed and use it in their gardens
and people here make the effort to clean up any plastic and trash that washes up or is left behind. walking in nature with no trash around is a great pleasure

there are only a few permanent residences along this section of the coast but it is dotted with cottages and cabins. in the summer there are lots of people around. so if you like solitude and quiet a gray november day is not a bad choice
