The 90s Strikes Back

avatar

During a work party a while ago, we were allowed to participate in exchanging white elephant gifts. The idea was to bring something under $20. It had to be something one wouldn't mind receiving as a gift. I received something I hadn't seen in over 25 years.

Yup, it's been that long. I didn't even know Bandai still made this. I remember it was all the rage where I resided as a child. If you look around places like eBay, the original toys could go over $100.

Of course, I didn't think a colleague got a vintage Tamagotchi to participate in a work party. I went on the Bandai website and saw that they sell re-releases of these items for around $20 each. Well, I wasn't about to indulge myself.

I still haven't opened mine yet. Part of me wants to for the nostalgia. However, another part of me wants to keep the past in the past. It might be worth more by staying in its original packaging. Who knows? This one might become a collector's item too!

In all seriousness, I don't have the luxury of spending time glued to a time-sensitive game. I guess you do grow out of stuff sometimes. But, it's still nice to see familiar things.

That brings back memories! I used to have one that was solid gold. Like you, I don't think I'd open it because I don't have the time, but what a great trip down memory lane!

No doubt. On a scale of 1-10, how does that rank compared to other white elephant gifts you've received in the past?

I'm gonna go with an 8. Probably the best I've ever gotten.

But, I generally find gift cards and cash better.

Awesome!

Yeah, gift cards and cash are hard to beat, although I struggled using up a $50 Amazon gift card from Christmas because I was stumped at what to buy. Maybe I'm just getting picky. 😆

Haha. I do love the Amazon credits I get from work at times. They are very helpful during the holiday season.

Very true. They especially come in handy for me, since I have two boys who don't seem to stop eating. 😆

I never had one, but I didn't realize they were making them again either. That was a very clever gift from them!

What the hell is that thing? Just goes to show I spent most of the 90's living the South America or the Caribbean. I must have completely missed that one altogether!
