THE EVENT

Hello everyone, it's good to be here again, happy weekend to you all

Dressing is part of our culture and the way you dress is the way you will be addressed. I love to dress simple and most events I usually attend centres more on marriage, birthday and naming ceremony.

If I were to attend an event I don't know what the dress code is I will prefer to be underdressed, not sophisticated, I don't have to buy new clothes and spend lots of money, picking one of the clothes I already have is the best choice for me, I don't really like attention and my dressing doesn't have to shout for everyone to notice. I will just wear one of my native (it can be lace or ankara) I feel it won't be odd. I wouldn't want to put on an English wear (dress corporate).

I might use a slight make up,and jewellery not too heavy, my folks do make jest of me that I dress like SU (born again). Honestly, I just want what will make me feel comfortable.

A friend invited me over to a wedding last year and when I got there I noticed most of them put on white, since I wasn't told about the dress code I just wore my blue lace, did makeup by myself, I wasn't embarrassed because I feel okay with what I wore and was glad I could create the time to meet up with the occasion, I attend events once in a while, only when am invited. I had to tie gele(head gear) since it's a muslim wedding and they won't like if I expose my hair especially during prayers. My mum always tell me to complete my dressing with head gear that it's beautiful, but most reception I do attend I just style my hair. Meeting my old friends again was the Joy of it all and I was not bothered.

That is interesting. They say: Dress does not make a man great. Where I come from, we appreciate the person not the dress. Cultural differences I suppose.

You are right ma'am, cultural differences, if you don't dress well here you might be look down on, people appreciate and associate with you when you dress well.
Thanks for sharing with me about your culture.
