During this week I had a disabled client, an old lady on a wheelchair who came with her daughter for a massage together.

We have a couple room so they could do together at the same time. Good thing our rooms are very spacious and I was able to take the wheelchair all the way through inside the room and also adapt the room so the chair could fit.

She choose the legs massage and since she had some difficulties in moving, I had to adapt almost all the massage protocol just for her. I’m quite happy about myself because I manage to adapt really quickly and even though it took more time than what was scheduled. And in the end it’s all about the client’s happiness and I delivered it!

This experience reminded me another one I had years ago in another hotel. This time were two girls in a wheelchair. There was a Paralympic competition in town and almost every country were staying in this hotel.

Can’t really remember which country the girls were but they were young and both with some specific condition on the legs but the back and shoulders where quite fit as their main sport was swimming.

The couple room is a bit different with less space for the wheelchairs but me and my coworker managed to pick them up in our arms and put them on the beds for the massage. At the end they loved it and we even helped them to get into the indoor swimming pool afterwards. They were quite happy and was a very empowering experience for us.

So the main lesson to learn from this is, you should always be prepared for any kind of situation so you can find a solution right away, and that comes mostly with experience. That is why the study and training is also very important to keep you up to day for everything you may encounter through life.

And another special lesson: be kind to one another! You might receive a big smile afterwards! And that's the best gift ever!

Happy Sunday!

We learn as we go and we have to trust ourselves and allow for imperfection too. Have a great rest of your day!
