Saturday Savers Club with @sally-saver | No Buy Month Week 2

happy saturday.png

Hello Everyone,

This is an extra edition of the Saturday Savers Club for our September No Buy Month. If you'd like to know more about the Club, scroll down to see the information section at the bottom and all our registered savers.

We launched September No-Buy Month last week in this post. Fifteen no-buyers left a comment so we got off to a good start! HSBIs on their way to everyone!

So this week there's two things you can do:

  • Let us know in the comments how you got on with your first week of no-buy? What was the toughest thing? Or may be it was all plain sailing? If you want to write a post and link it below, that's good, too 😁

  • Now, we want to share lots of hints and tips, so this week, I'd like some no-buy ideas for an evening meal. What have you got in the cupboard or freezer or garden, or you can get for free to make a meal? Do you regularly have a no-buy, make do, meal from whatever you have to hand? What's the best no-buy meal you've ever had?

Again, let us know in the comments, or add a post if you want.

An HSBI sponsored by @shanibeer for everyone who takes part.

Good luck, everyone! 😍

You Can Still Take Part in the No-Buy Month

Here's what to do:

Leave a comment below with your no-buy rules and your target for the percentage of savings you would like to make during the month. If you prefer you can make a separate post and link it in a comment. An HSBI sponsored by @shanibeer for relevant comments and posts.

You can find more No Buy information in the table at the bottom of this post - weeks 35-39.

On account of feeling quite poor right now, I'm doing exceptionally well not spending money during no buy month 😁

The best No-Buy meal recently, or rather No-Buy dish, was a pear and blackberry crumble made by my wife. All the crumbly ingredients were already in the cupboard (just stuff we keep in as standard), and the pears and blackberries all came from our own garden. I'd have taken a photo to post on Hive, but it was too nice so I just ate it.....

A tip for longer term No-Buy is to plant some Swiss Chard. It's best planted in the spring, so probably too late in the year now. Once established it's frost hardy, but needs protection from temperatures under about -5 degrees centigrade. If you plant it in planters or similar and move it into the greenhouse, it'll keep growing during winter (although at a less crazy pace than summer) so you can harvest a leaf or two off each plant as they grow. When you cook with it, you use it like spinach, and it's just as nutritious and iron-rich. Many websites will say that slugs don't like chard and won't attack it. They lie. Our whole first crop was munched to nothing by slugs and snails, so protect it ! Also ensure good airflow around the plants to keep mildew at bay.

Crumbles are fantastic at this time of year - one of my favourites!

I've mentioned this before: I'm a woman.
It's a little tiresome to keep being called "bro" as if the only people here are men.

I'm glad things are good for you.
Perhaps you would like to consider making a commitment to the Saturday Savers Club by stating your savings goals - your HP and HBD targets by 31 December 2023.

No sweat for me, lol! Kidding aside, it is pretty smooth sailing as I do not often buy stuff. We make do with what we have.

Speaking of a no-buy evening meal, we came home from a wedding Saturday with a bag (probably a kilo) of fresh meat and they were given to us for free, lol! We had some of it grilled for yesterday's dinner. That's one of the yummiest no-buy dinner meals we had recently :)

So my comment is coming in a bit late! Better late than never I guess.

For this week, I had to replace some food stuff like potatoes and onions. Also has to get the light bill sorted and get the gas refilled. Then I set aside money for transportation to and from church. That all was about 45 Hive I spent🥲. That’s N10,000 (£10.64).

Buuuuuuut, I slacked! Big time. I got some doughnuts too 😪 I just craved it so much and felt like I needed a pat on my back for my unrelenting focus! 😫😫😫 it was just two I promise (well four because I got for mom too and they all costs N400 - that’s like £0.10).

I still think I can do better with my finances. I feel like sometimes I loose track of how much leaves my pocket! So, I have decided to take down notes! Hopefully, I can see how to cut down costs at home.

The one way I want to do this is stopping the purchasing of drinking water. Yes. We buy clean water to drink.

But now that we have a home filled with water, I am thinking, I can sterilize the water right? Boiling it does that. Besides, that’s pretty much what these water companies do. And I’ll be saving about 800 naira (£0.85) monthly. I don’t see why I should be buying water when I have lots of it at home.

So the goal is to get containers. I will boil water and wait for it to cool, transfer them into these plastic bottles and put into the fridge. Good idea huh?

That’s it from me this week. I know I will do better.

At this Point, i just Voted for the Autor of the Week :D

To be true, the no-buy September is not comparable with my current situation....
I tried my best, but there has been few Sport-Events and these have required all my energy. I just didn't have the head for anything else, especially a changeover.

Exactly. Sometimes life plays its own game 😂

I think helpful things can be found always and everywhere, you just have to be attentive, then it comes almost by itself 😄

First of all: please move my goal to 7000 HP 😁

My No-Buy month is going well. As a novelty, I have installed the app of the supermarket closest to home to always carry with me the card that gives me discounts. A little more savings doesn't hurt.

Happy saving, dears!! 🤗

I completely failed on no-buy month this past week . Instead we spent a fortune on going out, visiting attractions and eating out :( !
The only thing we have done well on is not turning our heating on yet. This last week in Scotland it has gotten colder, but we have agreed that we will not switch our heating system back on until October - and so far we have managed that, and I expect that we can manage it quite easily for the rest of the month.

Okay, sometimes you need to take more of a run at a no-buy month 😁

Good thing about the heating, though. I am recommending heated jackets to everyone.
