The pressure on Africa youth

IMG_1454.jpeg

Yesterday, I discussed how the media is potentially grooming the next generation of criminals in our society. The constant stream of negative news, particularly regarding fraud and theft, seems to encourage kids to engage in bad behavior instead of deterring them. Today, at the gym, I shared my concerns with a friend who is a shoemaker. He too has noticed how the abundance of information on the internet is luring kids away from pursuing legitimate work and towards more negative activities. It's becoming an increasingly concerning trend.

This man has numerous apprentices, and the issue he's currently facing is when one of them joins a gang of Yahoo boys, known as fraudsters. Upon joining the gang, the apprentice began making a lot of money, and the other apprentices saw this and started quitting because they didn't want to put in the work to make that much money they just also wanted to scam for a living.

In our society, there is a growing issue of young individuals feeling pressured to make a lot of money quickly. For example, an 18-year-old boy might feel pressured to engage in fraudulent activities or complain about his financial situation because his peers are making large sums of money through illegal means, this pressure has led to an increase in ritual practices aimed at achieving wealth at a young age in some African countries.

These individuals who haven't worked much before they became wealthy tend to exhibit their wealth on social media platforms, using it as a tool to showcase their lifestyles and exert pressure on others. This is particularly precisely in Africa, where the system appears to favor those with financial means, these people frequently engage in illegal activities to make money, and they can frequently get away with it. the government is not doing anything against these individuals, and it is affecting our younger generation.

The need to do something is getting increasingly everyday.

The system's failure to catch those involved in fraudulent and illegal means of making money is causing harm. Instead, they target innocent Nigerians who struggle to make a living. The system turns a blind eye to the real criminals who bribe their way out of trouble. Even when the military arrests them, they are quickly released and back on the streets.

Many people have confidence because they know they can pay their way out of trouble with the law. This has led some young people to emulate their behavior and engage in illegal activities to make money. Unfortunately, in many African countries, the system is designed in a way that allows those with money to escape punishment, regardless of their actions.

But all of them

As a young person, it can be tempting to associate with individuals involved in illegal activities, even if they're not your closest friends. You may even come across their social media profiles where they flaunt their lifestyle and showcase their lavish spending, perhaps in an attempt to pressure you. However, many young people resist this pressure and stay focused on their goals. Despite the challenging environment and the state of the country, they remain committed to earning money through legitimate means.

It is two major things that are helping this set of youths to overcome the temptation. Number one thing is the fear of God in Africa, we believe in God so much but there are only a few people who fear God, and the second thing is the upbringing and the kind of parents different individuals have because this can have so much impact on our lives and our beliefs.

Sad news. Does it surprise me? No.
I think were it goes wrong, aside from the poisonois news and media ( increasing fear and hate ), is the example that government and big companies, banks etc. set. They are often the biggest fraudsters but they always get away with it easily.

That's true, those are the biggest fraudsters, but they easily get away with their illegal activities, putting society and their people in extreme poverty. I believe this will change at a point in time because change is coming. They change when the many rise up against the few.

It will change. In fact, it is already happening.

This is quite a captivating story to talk about.

I would agree and testify that an average youth in Africa is bound by pressure from the internet, friends, even in the neighborhood and so on.
I also believe there are two ways to think about this.

The first is the economy in Africa, it cannot be denied that cost of living is getting higher by the day while the minimum wages is close to not even increasing a bit.

I read a post yesterday by @akinolawilly, and he was also stressing about how the cost of living in Africa is increasing aggressively but there is little the government is doing about it.

I personally think the government also has a part to play in this discussion, as many youth are engaging in fraud because of lack of jobs and all, even some parents nowadays advice their children to venture into fraud.

This alone is stating how bad the economy is at the moment, while this is not an excuse to do fraud, it all comes down to having a proper upbringing by good parents and the fear of God as you have said.

Also the supposed people to enforce law are the real frauds here also. They don't even apprehend this fraudsters to bring them to justice but rather to extort money for their own personal gains too.

There are a lot of things that needs to be changed and corrected in Africa.

In time fraud will be a normal and encouraged handwork to do, if not curbed.

For people who do not engage in fraud, I can only say its by grace because pressure is everywhere an average African youth faces.

I agree that there are many challenges in Africa that need to be addressed. While the government can't solve everything, it's important for individuals to seek out opportunities and create income for themselves. It's true that these are major issues facing the continent, and we need to work towards change as quickly as possible.

That change is really what is needed at the long run, everybody needs to play a part in that change.
Only then will true change be manifested.

Regardless of our personal preferences, there will always be individuals who publicly display their wealth, both on and off social media. However, it is important to note that some of these individuals may have obtained their wealth through illegal means and should face legal consequences. This can serve as a deterrent for others who may be tempted to engage in similar activities. By holding these individuals accountable, we can encourage a shift in societal values and discourage the glorification of wealth obtained through unlawful means.

In as much as it would help curb the situation. Who is willing to take this bold step and save the upcoming youth. We all know a deaf ear has been given to such scenarios. Until this is justified, we may only end up in worries. I advise you counsel as many as you can maybe through post like this. Most youth I must say are not ready to work out their salvation. They wait for a get rich quick scheme, that's why they easily get trapped by this flaunters.

This has been the case facing the world but mostly in Africa. The issue of yahoo boys is getting worse by day. Some day I was at my office and two guys stepped in. They asked me to show them the way. The taught my hive work is also a form of the Yahoo stuff. I told them no that I do write article online where I'm being rewarded for my effort. They were really embarrassed that they left.

Immediately You can afford to feed yourself and maybe two people around you Some people will consider you a Yahoo boy, which is crazy. I wish I was there to see the disappointment in their faces.

I nearly joined in 2015, a cousin wanted to forcefully buy me a laptop and took me to their HK, but I declined, even if I was terribly suffering in 2015. The fear of God and decency.

I was also tempted once, but I stood my ground because I believe in hard work, and I don't want anything that I will do that I won't be able to have a Peace of Mind, so I chose to seek a legitimate source of income.

This issues of youths engaging in illegal activities of fraudulent mean in order to earn a living is actually fuel by get rich quick syndrome. The media is not happy matter, so also the religious institutions where they pray for miracle of money they don't work for. Many believe that they can come about financial breakthrough without engaging in meaningful work and endeavour.

The so-called celebrity who flaunt fake lifestyle on the social media. Also, important point to note is peer pressure. Many of these youth can engage in fraudulent activities oppress and fund their expensive lifestyle through it. The issues is becoming unbecoming since those that engaged in this crime can get away with it easily by paying their way out.

This is becoming more alarming but it seems there is nothing one can do about it. But like you rightly said, it is two things that can make one not join this gang, the fear of God and the right upbringing from the parents. But even the ones who have the fear God must have the holy spirit to guide them if not. The temptation is spreading.

It's sad but I am not surprised. It looks like a lot of kids want to do something like Youtube or Social media influencer as a job. It takes work to get there and I have been seeing some really bad things promoted. Although I think it tends to be Tiktok or prank channels that promote those annoying things or criminal things.

Yeah, moreover, people who are in power and are caught, get away with it…that’s an height of motivation on its own
