March 28th 2024 - "Unaliving" of Crypto

The emergence of the term "unaliving" in contemporary online discourse is one of the least appreciated, but actually the most frightening development, a phenomenon that signals emergence of the darkest of all Orwellian dystopias. This word, seemingly appearing overnight, carries a chilling resemblance to the euphemisms crafted by individuals under the yokes of NKVD, Gestapo and Inquistion to evade persecution. Modern euphemisms, including the use of asterisks in sensitive terms like "porn," are now utilised to circumvent social media algorithms designed by Big Tech to combat disinformation and hate speech, which actually serve exactly the same purpose as euphemisms created under authoritarian and totalitarian regimes.

The pervasive adoption of such euphemisms and shibboleths underscores a shift in the role of modern information technology. Once heralded as a tool of liberation, it now appears to be weaponised for control and oppression. This transformation is mirrored in the realm of cryptocurrency, where the initial push for widespread adoption has given way to greed and corruption.

The clamour for institutional investors in the crypto space has paved the path for traditional financial institutions with opaque agendas. This shift is evident in the tightening regulations, Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, and erosion of privacy, culminating in the rise of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) that empower governments to silence dissent with unprecedented ease.

Criticism should extend to crypto influencers who champion institutional adoption, some aligning with the exactly the same governments, political parties and candidates that actually pursued anti-crypto agenda. The current bullish market should not blind the cryptosphere to the looming dystopia. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies alone cannot “fix” the impending crisis without a collective awakening to the true essence of decentralised finance, meaning of the word “crypto” in “cryptocurrency”, and the responsibilities it entails.
