Cash Only for 30 days!

I have a healthy relationship with my credit cards. I had a dad who drilled into me that you never carry a credit card balance. After about the age of 16 my dad would spend time talking about avoiding debt, especially credit card debt, almost every month. He was relentless and he lived by his beliefs about it. So I have been carful live by that as well. I have implemented these 2 rules for the last 15 year of my life.

  1. Pay off all the my credit cards every other Friday.

  2. Credit Cards get paid before anything else.

It has worked for me. But recently I have noticed it is getting harder and harder to pay those off. We spend freely when we can just swipe/tap. Prices are going up and we have more expenses as our family is growing.

So I do not want to end up having to read articles like this one below to try and get out of debt if I do not tighten up.

So we are going cash only for 30 days.

It already hit home yesterday when I went to the grocery store. I had $35 in my wallet as I had not grabbed anymore cash and was not planning on a trip to the grocery store. I got in picked up milk, eggs, bread, ranch dressing, some fruit and veggies and bam, Iwas out of money. I know it sounds silly and I know I have more than most in the world so I do not want to sound un grateful but it was the perfect example of how easy it is for me to spend a lot of money on food. I checked out and went home and made dinner.

What I hope to learn/get from this.

I don’t need as much as I think.

You spend more when you can swipe.

And I hope to save some money this month.

Will I go back to Credit cards. YES.

I just hope to go back with a little more control and the out of control spending was starting to creep up.

Reset initiated. I will write about this more at the end of the 30 days.

Thanks for hanging out.

Paying cc bills every other Friday is brilliant. Routine will make sure it doesn't leave the mind and gathering fees and interest.

Good trial! With inflation hitting so hard recently, it is hard. Yet as you say, I think we do tend to spend more than we need to simply because it's so convenient to spend.

Good system on your credit cards. I also pay off every week. Holding a balance is the surest way to financial ruin. I love credit cards because if we are disciplined then we can take advantage of sign-up bonuses and points and other perks, but... we have to keep that discipline.

Those two rules are the best rules you have ever made in your life and I’m sure that they are being helpful
The major rule I have made in my life is not to get into a debt that I won’t be able to pay

I think I would miss some cash backs for some of my purchases on necessities if I were to do it.
