Stay Vigilant of the Multichain Hack by Fantom Impersonators

After the Multichain hack, it looks like hackers are not taking a break from scamming people as these bad actors are on the rampage again and this time they have taken to twitter to spread a phishing link.

Hackers have turned to Twitter promoting a fake emergency FTM distribution to users as a result of the Multichain attack and it is gaining attention fast. The tweet has got huge amount of retweets and views and also has been bookmarked by some users on Twitter.

The disguised tweet says:

“Due to the Multichain hack, Fantom Foundation is issuing an emergency FTM distribution to all users. All users who have interacted with the FTM chain are eligible to claim.”

A suspected phishing link was dropped for users who being affected in the hack to follow but turned out that the scammers are pretending to be Fantom Foundation which is the non-profit organization behind the Fantom (FTM) protocol.

This Multichain Hack lead to the loss of $125 million on Thursday, July 6th, as the Multichain discovered abnormally huge outflows from its platform and decided to suspend operations till they get to know what was wrong. These $125 million assets were sent to different wallets.

Users were therefore urged to halt all Multichain protocol operations and withdraw all contract approvals pertaining to Multichain until the investigations were finished and an explanation was provided.

Amidst the ongoing investigation, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the leading crypto exchange Changpeng Zhao took to Twitter announcing to the followers that the exchange is not affected by the attack and that all funds are safe.

And recently, there is a Twitter account that mimics the Fantom Foundation and uses forceful Twitter bot assistance for its advertisements. And additionally there are advertisements for the ongoing giveaway campaign which is said to have gotten over 6k retweets so far.

These type of hacks on Twitter are becoming a thing fast in the crypto space and users are advised to stay cautious and don't click on links that are unknown.
