IAAC - Day 56 Pencil Cactus Fruit

avatar

Today is Monday, July 26th and I am happy to be alive.

With summer the fruit of the cactus starts to ripen and turn red. There are two cactus in the picture.

The one is front which is thin with many branches is the Cholla Cactus. It is also called a Pencil Cactus. The fruit are very sweet but the small thorns make it very difficult to harvest so I leave the fruit for the birds. I tried once and ended up with my fingers full of small thorns that I it took days to get them out of my hands.

The cactus in the back is the Prickly Pear cactus. The pallets have the green fruit attached. The Prickly Pear Fruit will not start ripening until mid August. It has very nice taste. Depending on ripeness of the fruit, it taste slightly like watermelon. It makes a great addition to water or your favorite beverage.

how are you dear friend @ darmst5339 good afternoon
It's true, the fruits are very delicious, but the little thorns are a real problem.
I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid afternoon
