Breaking Tradition: A Family Outing to Challenge Mom's Tastes

The day I tried to convince my mom to eat what she doesn't like

On one occasion when I traveled home for the holidays, my bank account account was a bit fat and I decided to be extremely nice to my parents in a way I hadn't done before.

It was a Sunday, and in the evening, I decided to take everyone in the house out for a good treat. Dad had gone out to do Sunday stuff with his friends, so it was just my mom and two of my siblings at home. I told them to get dressed because we were going out to eat. Immediately, my mom started her motherly preaching, asking, "Is there no food at home? Even if there's no food at home, why can't you use half of the money you're ready to spend in the eatery to make a home-cooked meal?"

I knew she was going to say all that because it's more like a taboo for them(mothers in the village) to eat out; they're always comparing costs, which is very good though.
I didn't let her sermon affect me, and I convinced her and my two younger siblings to get ready. We left for the eatery, which was on the outskirts of the community.

When we got there, we took a table, and I went to make orders without asking them what they wanted to eat because if I did, they would all request normal things we eat at home, such as rice and swallow.

Guess what I ordered? Fresh fish pepper soup in four plates. My mom doesn't like that, but I did it to convince her to try something different.

When the attendant brought the food and placed it on the table, I could see the frown on my mom's face, which made my siblings and me burst into laughter.

"Is this for me too?" she asked, pointing at the plate of fish pepper soup in front of her.

"Yes, yes," I answered, continuing to eat, feeling less bothered about whether she would eat or not. I also tried to divert my siblings' attention by stretching out my hand for a selfie, excluding her because I really wanted her to eat. But before I knew it, she pushed her plate aside and instead grabbed the can of Malta Guinness in front of her and began to drink.

Seeing that, I knew she wasn't going to eat at all, so I went on to make another order of swallow, which is her favorite meal. She smiled all through while eating that, and we(I and my siblings) shared the leftover plate of pepper soup.

It was a fun-filled day, even though my goal of getting my mom to eat fresh fish was not accomplished.

She really doesn't like that fish at all, and according to her, it's too soft and can make someone nauseous. That's super funny. That's why we don't use that fish to make a general meal at home; we only cook it whenever it's a one-time meal for the guys in the house.

Thanks!
