Do you know? There are some song lyrics that we usually hear have a deep meaning. Especially, if we're talking about Japanese music, many things take the attention of the listener from their emotional music notes and lyrics.

Japanese song lyrics usually use emotional and meaningful words like "love" (愛, 恋), "heart" (心), and "Dream" (夢). Unique way to put it, those words have a deep meaning in their own eras.

From 1950 - 1970 (Showa era), "Love" (愛, 恋) started to gain popularity and was used in Japanese songs. Different from "Love" that we think, "Love" in those years was more like a sad story. The background story for that situation was couples in those years found it hard to communicate with each other. One of the communication devices that couples usually used to communicate was something like a billboard.

A song from Kyu Sakamoto (坂本 九) with the title, "Look Up at the Night Stars" (見上げてごらん夜の星を) tells a sad story of love using "Stars" as an object, "僕らのように 名もない星が,
ささやかな幸せを 祈ってる" (A nameless star like us, I pray for your modest happiness).

From 1980-1990 (Showa to Heisei era), "Heart" (心) and "Dream" (夢) started to be used in Japanese songs. "Heart" (心) had meaning for someone's feelings where they realize that their feelings are different from before. Like from a song by Hikaru Utada (宇多田ヒカル) with the title, "First Love" (初恋) that was released on April 28th, 1999. "First Love" tells a sad story about a feeling of someone who wants to be with her first love even if it's just a "Dream" (夢).
