Thailand - A New Garden Experience

A Brief Introduction . . .

Sawasdee kop!

Yes, Thailand! The "Land of Smiles", hot weather, monsoons, and amazing experiences.

How this old Colorado cowboy ended up living off-grid here is a long story that can be found in other posts. But since I am new to the #c/HiveGarden community, I wanted to preface this post with a short hello!

The Farm . . .

That's the main house on this 11 rai (about 5 acres) section. We also have 23 rai (about 10 acres) in rice 1/2 km from the house.

That might not sound like much, but it is the biggest farm in Bahn Phi, the local village, which is 15 km from Borabue, the larger city that you can find on Google.

The first garden area behind the house.

Thai's love papaya, mango, bananas, and chilli. So that is the 'primary' aspect of the farm. We also have tomatoes, long beans, coriander, and several other things in this plot.

This area was just recently planted behind the guest house. The rainy season has only started, so some of the papaya and mango are stressed a bit. That could change soon, as I hear thunder in West!

At the rear of the property we have about 200 banana plants of 3 different varieties. There is 50 mango, several coconut, avocado, durian, and other things including the ever present bamboo!

And that's the pig barn we are expanding to hold about 100 in total capacity. Currently we have 53 and 2 sows about to pig.

In Closing . . .

Yeah, that was longer than I had anticipated! 😆

This off-grid adventure has only started. Much more to do, like increase the solar grid, but we are making progress! And I am still 'commuting' (if you can call a 26 hour flight that) between Thailand and America. Hope to get my long-term visa sorted this year.

I look forward to reading the posts from others here about your own gardening journey. Until next time . . .

Best Regards

Richard Taylor

Thank you!

It's a work in progress. The two years I couldn't come here slowed it up some. But we're gaining!

Thanks so much for the comment and upvote! Actually, the comments are what I enjoy the most. Don't like talking to myself! 😆

These basic houses are really all that anyone needs. That place looks so tranquil. Provided you have reliable electricity, I am sure it is a wonderful way to live.

I like it! Big enough for my needs.

Need to add more solar and batteries, but it works.

Still more to build. Workshop/office, car park, miscellaneous stuff. But it's home in Issan!
