Some necessary changes in my little green corner

July has started with many changes in my little green corner. Some plants have been removed from the balcony. We have changed the position of almost all the plants. But most of all, we have made the tiny balcony a safe place for our little Milo.

We decided that we had to put up a strong netting on the balcony in case Milo would wander around. We had weeks with the windows closed. We couldn't even open a crack because Milo, who is not only curious and naughty, but also seems to have an adventurous soul, took every opportunity to climb on the balcony.

A week ago, he even snuck into the balcony and I found him with his head looking out. He gave me a big scare and then we decided that the mesh was a priority. We needed to ventilate the house and not suffocate from the heat, but at the same time have peace of mind with Milo's safety.

Balcony1.jpg

Balcony2_MallaInst.jpg

So yesterday was the day. We spent the morning emptying the balcony and removing all the pots. And in the afternoon, they came to put up the safety netting.

Milo_Balcony1.jpg

Once the mesh installation was ready, Milo had free entry to the balcony and didn't take a minute to take advantage of it.

Milo_Balcony2.jpg

Milo_Balcony3.jpg

With just a couple of pots inside, he was able to explore the place. And, of course, he also did his acrobatics moves, the ones we were so afraid of. But this time, we were calm and we let him explore.

And then, we spent the rest of the afternoon placing the pots inside, deciding which ones to put back and where to put them. We wanted to have our green corner back but leave it a bit freer, so Milo could move around without too many obstacles.

YucaInterior1.jpg

YucaInterior2.jpg

Some of the plants could have used a change to a larger pot, like this indoor yucca plant whose roots had come out of the pot. But since it was impossible to transplant it without cutting the roots, the husband had an idea. I don't know if it will work, but at least it is creative and will allow the roots to grow in the soil of another pot by placing the pot half buried in a larger one.

YucaInterior3.jpg

We planted some cuttings from another bush around the pot to see if they grow. Those bushes tend to grow easily, so we'll see.

HierbasAromaticas_Julio23.jpg

My aromatic herbs are now more towards the center, before I used to have them in a corner. We will see if the new place suits them. The three that I have right now, oregano, basil, and rosemary are strong and leafy.

AlbahacaJulio23.jpg

The basil, which is the one I have had for the shortest time, has strengthened in the last few weeks.

RomeroFlor_Julio23.jpg

And one of my rosemary bushes has even flowered. This is the first time that one of my rosemary bushes has a flower.

GrogusFav1.jpg

GrogusFav2.jpg

Of course, there will always be room on our balcony for the bushes that were the favorites of our always-remembered Grogu, the succulent zebra, and the malanga. Good thing Milo only smells them and doesn't chew them.

Balcony4.jpg

My Eucharis, also known as Amazon Lily, has a privileged place. But it is not in bloom for now.

AloeVera_Julio23.jpg

And we are left with this medium-sized plant of aloe vera. These days I will have to repot the buds. We had a much larger one full of buds and we decided to distribute it among the neighbors since it took up a lot of space on the balcony. We also got rid of a pineapple bush that was a bit ugly and the tomato plant that now had dried up. It is my second failed attempt to have a tomato plant. After a couple of harvests, I always end up losing them.

I still have to replant the cactus that I have had almost since we moved. It looks a little sick but some of its parts can be rescued. I will tell you later how it goes.

Milo_Balcony5.jpg

And of course today Mr. Milo had a very happy morning on the balcony. So much so that the afternoon nap on the couch was delayed a lot and that might mean that we can expect him to burst into our room less at night wanting to play, or at least I would like to think so. 😹

This is my post for this month's #gardenjournal challenge.

hehe Milo is indeed a naughty wee rascal. The picture of him after they installed the safety netting is funny, he is an acrobat!

Now you just need to make sure he leaves the plants alone Super Eli!

He does look ever so cute though 💙🔵💙

He's a wee rascal and very reckless Super Ed.
Me va a sacar canas verdes como decimos aquí.
He always wants to get out of the house, climbs on the grid door, and sticks his head out, he is very funny but sometimes I'm afraid he will hurt himself. He is the most sociable cat hehe, is like his uncle. 💙

Fortunately, he doesn't like to eat bushes like Grogu used to, at least so far.

hehe and we would say pull our hair out!

Good thing he is not a bush eater like Ageese though...

Milo is a beauty and of course he deserves his space on that balcony and green corner, but safely, because I live on a low floor, but it terrifies me to think that a cat can fall from a high floor.

Your plants look great and we'll see how some of them evolve after the changes they made.

It also terrifies me. And that's why, when we notice he was a reckless one, we didn't think twice to put the safety netting.
Thank you for stopping by:) Saludos!

LOL, Milo! What a cute little one! That safety mesh is definitely a reliever for you. Now this cutie can have his naughty time without giving you a heart attack! XD

Your garden looks bountiful. Love the aromatics. What your husband did to the overgrown yucca plant is ingenious! I think it will work, from my totally inexperienced point of view.

The little green corner has turned out very well, and it's good that they also adapted it for Milo, so he can walk around more freely. Greetings @coquicoin

I hope your green corner and your aromatic herbs continue to prosper.

And how nice that now Milo can walk around freely and you are very calm knowing that he is happy and can climb up the mesh to do more mischief without any danger.

How beautiful Milo! 😻

I'm not a houseplant expert, but this is a pretty big balcony garden that needs maintenance :)

Your green corner is really green and very refreshing, a small piece of green corner in the center or border of the house helps to keep the whole environment fresh.

Great work adding the mesh to your balcony. Milo looks like he has taken to it very happily. Such a cute one!

How are you dear friend @coquicoin good morning
Milo is not the only cat who loves to wander around the balconies, cats in general are very active and curious, a balcony is something very inviting for them
What a good idea to place a protection mesh on the balcony to avoid all kinds of accidents, also, as you say, you need to ventilate the rooms and with the mesh in place they can do it without inconvenience
Your aromatic plants look great and I love the view you have from your balcony. Apparently Milo is very happy with the changes you've made to your little green corner.
beautiful photographs, I appreciate that you have shared this experience

Milo is quite the adventurous sis :) The mesh is truly needed.

Your hubby's idea is awesome! I did the same thing to one of my plants 😅 and hoping it will work.

You have a variety of herbs and great to see your rosemary blooming! I've never seen on bear flowers before. Now I'm quite excited to see my bunch do the same thing hehe.

The mesh was necessary to Milo and our hearts, sis 😅.

Let's hope that idea of planting one pot inside another works, hehe.
I have had at least one rosemary bush for years. I love it and it grows very well. But this is the first time that one has flowered. I hope yours does. They look beautiful. For now, I have two flowers :)

Cats and plants sometimes don't get along. It is excellent that you have put up a net to protect Milo, that is very important.

Some plants do need to be repotted so they can have room to grow healthy.

Cats and plants sometimes don't get along

That's the way it is, that's why we're keeping an eye on it. So far he smells them and doesn't chew them, we hope he keeps it up because he is enjoying being able to wander around the balcony.

What a lovely little balcony! I'm glad you made it safe for Milo and for your peace of mind! I bet he would have scared the life out of me with his explorations before the netting, as well!

Looks like a lovely collection of plants! I hope your yucca solution works. Crazy how those roots will find a way to grow anywhere!

It's a beautiful read.

I love the view of the balcony plus the plants. Hope Milo does not find any plant attractive and try to chew.
