Just For Work Sake

This is my answer to the second #hivenaija weekly prompt. Good morning from my end to everyone right here.

Being who we are, we have so many things which we do find silly, not just at work but at home. Doing these things would not just make one laugh, but worth laughing at. Things like wearing some sort of clothes which you find uncomfortable, or some other things.

The working environment normally has some rules and regulations binding it. So, the best is to follow such rules, undermining your personality. Sporadically, when I see workers who are always wearing some sort of dirty clothes to their respective work, I get so many questions to ask. It looks so silly to wear those clothes according to my personality, but then they would be questioned by their bosses if they make any attempt to wear their choice to work.

Come to think of it, money is what we are all finding, even though we do something that can stain our very person or do something that can inconvenience your kind of person.

In my place of work, we have an ethic, which I may call a standing rule. This rule must be obeyed if you want to remain a staff member of the organization. I have seen so many organizations similar to mine where all the teachers had to wear native clothing on Fridays. We also wear native clothing to school on a Friday just like other schools, but not made compulsory.

The management had to imitate some schools and ended up telling us to wear white sneakers every Wednesday. I'm not the type who loves fancy or flashy things, so putting on white sneakers is not on my agenda, as I have never worn them in my life. I tried to explain to the management, but they said it was a standing rule. “You must obey if you are ready to stay in the system”.
I told them I only had sky blue, which was my favourite colour, but they insisted on the same white colour.

Well, I had no choice other than to do as they said. Whereas, my business is to earn a salary and leave after delivering my duties. Who am I to object to the rules of the school? So, I searched for the type they wanted. I bought it and was feeling so shy to wear it as it was my first time wearing things like this. You all should understand what I meant. I wore it, and it looked somehow uncomfortable on me and the way people were looking at me, gave me a second thought of embarrassment.

I was feeling ashamed and uncomfortable, but did I have a choice? Since it's a must to wear white sneakers, I had to concur, as I can't do something that would take me out of my job.

I found wearing white sneakers to work every Wednesday silly and embarrassing, but then after wearing them for about two months, I got used to it. I now prefer this silly thing to any other colour.

As if that were all, the second must-do thing was the wearing of a face cap. What!!! I have not worn this in my life and would not want to break this part of me. I did not bother myself going to meet with the management, instead, I did what was necessary. Not only that, but I just used my number six to make sure everyone saw me wearing it. While leaving my house, I will pocket the face cap, but when I get to the school gate, I have no choice other than to put it on. This means those outsiders would not be able to see me, but the students will.

I only applied sense to defeat this silly idea, but then, wearing it was a choice and a must.

Sometimes for work sake we bend our own rules, wearing white sneakers is also not something I fancy.
