Gas And It's Wahala

Last week, they declared Monday a public holiday just because of the independence celebration in my country, Nigeria. So, it was a resting day for me and other workers. So, the weekend is always a period for eating enough food, and to top it up, my four kids had to eat me dry before Monday.

After enjoying the weekend coupled with the holiday, we finally went to work, and my kids went to school. It was a normal b nstomach so well just because it was too early to eat. I left home at 6 a.m. I cooked with the gas while leaving for work, as my wife was still in bed.

When I got to work, I called my wife on the phone to put beans on fire, which she answered. We all should know how beans always take longer to get cooked. She set the beans on fire at 3 p.m., as I would be coming home at 6 p.m. It was nice timing, you know.

To cap it all, I was happy while teaching my students in school private lessons that I would be coming home to eat beans. When it was 12 to 6, I was done with my classes and decided to leave for home. One thought was telling me to buy bread because it would be best to eat beans with bread since I would not be able to buy custard. I rejected the mind asking me to buy bread and started coming home. I knew that the woman selling in front of our house would have bread.

Likewise, I was seriously happy when I came home. When I got to the house, I saw my wife in her shop, and I could not be bothered calling her but went straight to the house. I prepared my stomach so wide to eat the beans. I pulled off my clothes and went straight to the kitchen. The truth was that I was perceiving the aroma of beans, which got me goosebumps and kept my mouth watery. As I got to the kitchen, I opened the pot and saw the pot emptied and neatly washed. I thought that maybe my wife would have served my food on a separate plate. I called her on the phone to come home to give me my food, and her reply doubled the hunger in me.

“Gas was finished, and I could not prepare any beans. The beans were on fire while the gas got finished, and there was nothing I could do apart from pour the beans into a pan and wait for your arrival”.

What!!! I was unable to hold my hunger and, at the same time, my anger; instead, I went straight to the place where we always keep cassava flakes, generally known as gari. I was relieved a bit, but the hunger aggravated after seeing an empty pail. Likewise, I immediately called my wife and asked her about the gari. She said, “Your children have finished the gari". Hunger did fire the hell out of me.
