From A Distance

“Michael is seriously ill; please, I don't know what has happened to my son. It's terrible and an overnight sickness; you need to rush down as fast as you can," my mom said to Felicia.

Felicia is an orphan who only works for people as a maid. She has worked in the house of King Joshua and has been praised for her good work. She served the house so well until the king died.

She is just at home, selling petty goods. My mom has been searching for a maid who would serve her, as she is of age and needs someone to always stay with her. I'm the type who always goes to work and would always love to stay at work, except on weekends.

“Fred, can you please get me a maid?” I asked.

“What do you need it for?” Fred inquired.

“My mom required it badly,” I replied to Fred.

“I knew one who had served the late King Joshua. She has been a good girl and a good maid," Fred replied.

“Contact her and let me know," I said.

Two days later, Felicia came to our house with Fred. As she stepped into the house, my sight went straight into contact with hers. She looks pretty and quiet. Immediately, I started falling for her. No one noticed my look except Felicia and me. My mom accepted her as our new maid. She resumed work immediately. I was always watching her whenever she was working, and I became attracted to her. On a Sunday when we were supposed to go to church, my mom got prepared, and I did as well. Felicia came out of her room with a glowing gown that made her look just like a queen. I began to gaze at her from head to toe. My mom observed and immediately cracked her throat, showing a sign of her awareness.

“Let's go," my mom said.

Three days later, I was not ready to wait any longer and instead asked her out.

“But you know I'm just a maid?” Felicia said.

“That is not relevant. What matters most is the love I have for you," I replied.

“What about your mom?” Won't she feel somehow for me? Won't she send me packing?” She replied.

“She can't. Just say yes; I will take care of that," I said.

“*OK, bu…ut…”

“Don't let me be there; just accept me," I replied.

“Yes, I also liked you the very first day I entered the house," she confessed.

As we were discussing, my mom passed by and sighted her talking; she immediately shouted at Felicia to vacate my presence. She ran to the house.

“Son, don't lie to me. Do you love her?” My mom asked.

“Yes, Mum, I love her and would love to settle with her. '', I could not wait to respond. I thought my mom would shout at me, but she was somehow looking nice and smiling. She left for her room.

My mom called Felicia and asked, “Hey, come here,” with a command. Felicia could not wait an inch, but with fear, she rushed to my mom.

“Yes, ma'am. You called me," she replied with fear that took over her face. Felicia was thinking today would be her final day in the house.

“Do you love my son?” my mom asked.

It was taking Felicia time to answer, which made my mom shout at her. This was when she opened up and said, “Yes, ma'am.”.

My mom opened her eyes and asked her to come and embrace her. She was confused, as she thought my mom was doing that to slap her. She moved closer and went into my mom's alms.

“Welcome to my family,” my mom said as she welcomed her to the fullest.

After dating for a month, my mom had to run to Felicia's room.

“Please, my son is in trouble. She is seriously ill, and I don't know what to do. I think you should come over so that you can help me take him to the hospital," my mom said with tears rolling down her cheeks.

“How, I mean, what had happened to him? We saw each other about two hours ago. Felicia replied while she also started shivering with tears coming down from her face.

As they both ran to my room with my mom ahead of her, my mom paused while folding her arms and watching Felicia’s countenance.

She saw me kneeling with a ring, asking her, “Will you marry me?” She was confused and did not know what to say.

“So it was a plan, right?” Felicia asked.

“I was almost dying when I heard you were not fine," she continued.

“Yes, I will marry you," she replied, tears rolling down her cheeks.

I placed the ring on her finger, and my mom immediately popped a bottle. It was a great celebration.
