A Colossal Lie

So many people have told great and the biggest lies ever which landed them into one trouble or the other. Some were able to get out of those lies and I may say “Kudos to them and me who happened to fall into this category”. So many of them were still living their relationship with lies. In another way, some others are equally drawn to lies.

Down the line, I have been a victim of this path, but I was able to free myself from it after seeing what the outcomes would look like.

The very day I saw my wife, I got carried away. It was just as if it were love at first sight. I love everything about her and was happy being with her. At one point, she was not comfortable being with me, but I made her see the best reason to mingle with me at all costs. I made her the real me.

My younger brother connected her with me and told her things about me, except for where I worked.

The day I was to have the melodious conversation with her was when the whole problem emerged. I had gone to see her parents with my younger brothers and my other friends. We were warmly welcomed by her parents.

After some time, they entertained us with drinks and prepared food for us.
”Wow!!! Your parents are caring”, I told my wife. “Yes they are”*, she responded neatly.

With the look of things and the way I behaved, her mum began to like my kind of person. She uttered to my wife, “I'm seeing him as a good man. He will be good and so special to you. He will carry you just like an egg”, she said, just as if she were seeing a vision.

Now, back to her dad.
“Where are you working?”, To be sincere, I was ready to tell them my mind without keeping any secrets, but my younger brother who was so eager to get me hooked up with Abigail, my wife, told a colossal lie which I was so shocked to hear. I had no choice other than to add more to it. It was a big fat lie and the one that could terminate my relationship with Abigail, my wife.

My younger brother said, “My brother is working in the reputable soap industry”. Wow!!! What a fat one he has told right there.. I was short of words and was ready to face the music when the time to dance to the tune finally arrived.
I was happy that my father-in-law did not ask for the name of the company. He asked me where I live in Lagos and I replied “Lekki”. Hmm … what a big area, whereas, I'm living in Epe in Lagos State. This was the beginning of my problem with my wife.

When we were together, the lie kept on haunting me, disturbing me to the fullest. How to come out of it was my concern. I waited for some time and finally, I had to let the cat out of the bag.

It was a great and joyful day for her. I took her to the eatery to buy her some food and make her enjoy herself. This was when I started telling her the truth about what my younger brother had said to her father, my father-in-law, and in the presence of her mum.
“Please, I want to correct two mistakes and a lie I told your parents”. She dropped the spoon she was using to eat and started listening.
“My younger brother had told your parents that I was working in a reputable soap industry. This was a big lie. I wanted to be true to you but fast forwardly, my brother said the worst. So, I'm here to update you that I'm just a teacher and that's what I do for a living. I also told them I was living in a reputable area called Lekki. This was a lie. I live in Epe, Lagos State. Please, just forgive me for these big lies I told you and your parents”.

“I initially did not like you, but as time went on, I began to like you just because of your attitude. I have studied you, and so do my mum. She liked you the very first time she saw you. This made me have strong feelings that you will be a good man. So, this is just a lie, but I can handle it. The only issue here is my dad. My mum will understand, as I have a way of convincing her. Please, I will not take any lie from you, ever again”, she said, being so serious. She was so straightforward.

“Alright, my love. I will not and will never tell any form of lies to you”, I said in a happy mood.

Until today, her dad did not remember to ask where I was working, but her mum was later told. Her mum, my late mother-in-law, was the best mother-in-law I have ever seen. She gave us advice at all times.

Come to think of it, Epe is not far from Lekki nah. It won't take much time for the ferry to take you there.

That was indeed a huge lie there because if your father-in-law had asked questions further, you might not have answers.

I wondered why your wife didn't know about your residence, guess she hadn't visited you first.

Thanks for participating.

Lol, lucky your to-be wife was able to understand and that include her family because one way or another the news got to the dad. I don't know why your brother chose the lie but it seems her parents weren't after the luxuries

Oh my goodness 🤭, that was a big lie capable of ruining your relationship with your in-laws and wife . You are just a lucky man honestly, had it been your wife isn't an understanding type, that would be the end of the marriage. I am sure you learnt a great lesson to always stand by the truth and enjoy peace of mind.

Thanks for sharing

Jeez.... That was a great fat lie to set the dice rolling indeed.
I won't blame your younger brother, all he was doing was looking out for the best for his elder brother and maybe he has heard about how good Abigail, your wife was and didn't want to take the chance.

Thank goodness she loved you for who you were and not what nor places you claimed you were.
That's what true love is all about anyway

Goodluck
