What makes you feel most alive?

I'd truly love to know. Will you share in the comments? What does make you feel most alive? I'd love for this post to be a resource of great ideas, inspiration and a hope-filled reminder of how there are things we can all do to make ourselves feel more alive.

When I say "more alive" I'm thinking of the things that cause you to feel passionate and fulfilled rather than full of adrenaline because you're terrified 😂

So, as you ponder your own answer to this question don't tell me, "Caroline, I feel most alive when I'm being chased by a bear!" 🐻

Tell me what lights you up.

Tell me what makes you come alive.

Tell me what fills you with joy.

I'll share the three things that immediately come to mind for me when I read Galen's prompt this week:

Dancing in a big group of people at a Conscious Dance event.

I first attended one of these in Ubud, Bali (Indonesia). Imagine a daytime, drug and alcohol free event where there's just music and dancing and sweaty bodies and no steps to follow; you just move your body however you feel to move it. I loved these events so much. I went almost every week for an entire year or more.

Just one of my many pairs of dancing shoes.

Running alone in the bush, on single track.

I have loved doing this for as long as I can remember. I'm fortunate in that I can safely run in the bush on my own here and in many places in Australia. Also, there's a big nature reserve near our home and so I can walk out my front door and I'm literally surrounded by bush two minutes later. Being alone means I'm focused entirely on the act of running (rather than talking) and running on single track (trails that are narrow enough that only one single person will fit) forces me into a sort of moving meditation. I have to be 100% focused on where I'm running or I'll trip on something and, in my case, this is good because there's no room for (the seemingly never ending) thinking!

This is a goanna, a very large, awesome reptile I rarely see. It's a privilege to be able to find such creatures in the bush and I'm sure I only get to see such a beauty because I'm regularly running and walking in this nature reserve.

Making love with my Mister.

I know this might seem like a funny one to include but it was one of the three things that immediately came to mind when I thought about this topic. Also, I appreciate that there are many people in committed partnerships where their sex life really isn't that good. So I do not take this for granted.

You didn't think I was going to post a photo of us in bed now did you? 😉

It's interesting to reflect on these things as what they all seem to have in common is that:

  • I'm moving my body, and
  • The activity works better if I'm 100% present and in my body (not thinking)

Also, in all of them, there's a sense of connection. When I'm dancing it's with the others around me as we play together. When I'm running it's with the bush around me. And when I'm having sex... well, that's obvious ☺️

So, what about you? What activities light you up, fulfill you and make you feel truly alive? 👇

Oh. I can think of some things.

“Little achievements: these shows that I can take it a bit further despite my background.

Completing a task. It’s not the completion that makes me feel alive but the process of it. The frustration, tiredness the excitement and the build up of several emotions that comes with it. It makes me light up.

And my mother’s smile. When she is genuinely happy I soar and look for ways to keep it that way. I hate it when anything touches her and takes away that glow. This is why I work daily. Just for her smile.

I feel alive with these things.

🙏😊❤️

I also love the satisfaction of completing tasks (if the task was something I actually wanted to do! Or the relief I feel if it was something I had to do and it's now done!) and seeing that I've made progress learning something that's important to me. 🙌

I think for me, it's mediations on God's word and Music. I just need to have the right word on my mind and that can push me through the day with some beautiful music like the likes of Don Moen, Ron Konely, Jonathan Mckreynold and more. If this two are ceased from me, I think my misery will know no bounds.

well, we don't have 'bush' here, but yes I totally get the moving meditation, 'being in the moment' that running provides. Its even better in the rain!

One thing I really enjoy is the naming of the animals and plants I photograph, and the stuff I learn about them on the way. I take pictures of all sorts of wildlife, and half the fun is getting a nice sharp image, and the other half is finding the name of it.

I also like when I find a name after riffling though books and searching online so I can name a particular species, and then when I see the same species 3 weeks later and I able to name it again. In fact I also like to be able to pass that information on to others... so I suppose it essentially means I love the learning and sharing of new knowledge :-)

Oh, I don't mind the rain when it's hot here... which is at least half the year, to be fair. 😅

I guess so! That's yet another thing we have in common, good sir 😉

And back to you: photographing critters and finding their names. !LUV it. Thanks for sharing here 🙌

It makes me feel alive to rest, to be with my family and to be able to build my home little by little, as well as to have a job where I feel fulfilled.

Hi conciouscat! As i read your story, what makes me feel alive is that I am like yours, everytime I see animals in that place it makes me alive as how they are cute and adorable, what makes me feel also alive is that every time I visit the beach all my problems will gone everytime I see the waves makes me feel alive. And most of all that makes me feel alive is my family.
