Urban Planning is so very Important for Big Cities

India has become the most populated country in the world overtaking China. But the real population you will see is in the big cities where you will find people everywhere. When you go to villages or even tier 2 cities you will not find that much crowd because the migration from the village to cities for the better life has been going on for ages.

Now the city is planned for certain number of population and when teh migration happens it creates an extra pressure on the infrastructure which is actually causing chaos in the life of common people. And that's why urban planning thinking long term should be done. If not then you will face this problem across all the cities in the world.

Let me give an example of Bangalore, my current location. I have seen Bnaglaoee becoming worst. Now in 1990s time, Bangalore used to be retires paradise. Like anyone around India have some money and want to retire they will choose Bangalore any day. It was like a hill station city which is full of lakes and trees.

Soon it has started becoming the IT hub of India and that has created a lot of job opportunity and thus people all over the country started migrating to Bangalore. With the weather being nice, it had became first preference to most of the IT folks.

Soon the adverse affect of migration has started seeing, the lakes were covered to get more land so that bug apartment can up. Trees used to cut down in the name of development. Politicians were enjoying the huge real estate prices and didn't do anything for the infrastructure. And this led to the chaos, Bangalore becoming not so preferred location anymore. People want to move away from it, mainly because of the traffic, water scarcity, weather not so great anymore and the huge property prices.

And thus with this we have to make a well planned city before hand itself so that even if the migration happens, there should be room for improvement. And that's why I liked Dubai so much. The city is so planned that even if a lot of people start coming to Dubai, you will not feel the pain because you cab reside in any corner of the city and can easily get connected with most of the main points using public transport which are quite good.

I am not blaming the population migration because that can happen in any city in the world. I am blaming the politicians who have made it worse. We don't have a great public transport out here and that's the foremost problem of the traffic. Every smart cities should have excellent public transport which can make the traffic on the road less conjested. And that's why when the planning of the city happens we should take into account these all things otherwise every city will have these problems.

What I've noticed is that when these government officials do urban planning, they tend to not put much consideration into the future, how the city can grow 10X or even more. Most of the infrastructures that are built can only accommodate relatively number of people during those times. I hope modern urban planners will atleast think way bigger and far ahead than their predecessors.
