India - Second Largest Producer

We grew up seeing farm lands of our forefathers and others. When we were kid, we used to go to our grand0arents farm and used to play around there as it was quite a bug farm. But eventually it has to be sold because the nee generations are not very much into farming.

As of today India is Second largest Producer of Rice and Wheat which is the world major food staples but again since the newer generation is not taking up farming, we might end up that tag. We are falling short of the food all over the world, mostly because the supply is very less as compared to the demand. And the harsh weather condition is making the matter worse.

For example, the prices of the general food staples as well as the vegetables have increased considerably in last 2 years because the production has gone down and the demand is increasing. I remeber I used to buy Wheat for Rs 32 per kg and now the same wheat is around Rs 42 almost 33% rise in one year. Now the question is why the younger generation is not taking uo farming, this is because of the hard work it requires.

Farming is one of the toughest job in the world and along with thar it doesn't pay you much. If there is any adverse weather condition you will not get the amount of money you invested too. And I have seen in front of my eyes in 2021 when the locust had attacked crops in Rajasthan where almost all the crops are destroyed.

Now what's the option. First of all, I try to limit the food wastage. I know it doesn't do much difference bit even 1% of the people start doing it, we will see vast difference. Mostly in marriages in India, people take up a lot of food and eventually throw it when they cannot eat it. The food wastage could have been used to feed poor people.

Next is enhancing infrastructure. I know we cannot control the weather but if we use modern day farming, it cab increase the yield and will make more profit for people and thus more and more people can take up farming.

This really is a beautiful realization as i think we're loosing our culture and also the situation is delicate, one should start focusing on farmers too.
I would someday want to get back to a village and settle, McDonald's is stopping me from that.

I think focusing on infrastructure will help reduce the hard work aspect of farming. If people have modern farming tools, then they will be more inclined to pick up farming.
