The Friedrichstadtpalast: Berlin's variety stage

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Friedrichstadtpalast. It's a stage that has an impressive history and fascinating shows to offer. But before I talk about the show we saw, let me tell you more about this place.

A history of entertainment and elegance

The Friedrichstadtpalast is one of Europe's most visited variety theaters and is also the largest theater building in Berlin. Its history is characterized by a succession of structural changes:

The current building was erected between 1982 and 1984 and marks the third building on this site. There were two predecessor buildings, the first built in 1867 and the second in 1919, which was severely damaged during the Second World War and partially demolished in 1980 with the new building from 1982. The architecture of the Friedrichstadtpalast impresses with its modernity and striking style, especially in the context of East Berlin. The Friedrichstadtpalast has an extraordinary, futuristic façade, as you can clearly see in the picture.

The building houses a large stage and offers variable seating for up to 1,895 spectators.

Its technical equipment is remarkable and contributes to the unforgettable experience of seeing a show there. But the Friedrichstadtpalast is not just a venue for shows, it is also a cultural attraction. Other artistic performances such as revues and musicals also take place here. Tourists and visitors from Berlin alike come to enjoy the diverse cultural events.
