For me, my car means freedom. I know it's a bit old-fashioned, especially in a city like Berlin where public transportation is so well developed. But when I have to go out into the countryside to get a taste of the fresh air of Brandenburg, I appreciate the independence and freedom that my car gives me.

There's something special about traveling at my own pace, stopping whenever I want and discovering new places without having to follow a timetable. My car is like a faithful companion on my adventures and I enjoy exploring the roads and discovering the world around me.

How do you see it? Do you still have a car that means freedom to you? What memories do you associate with it? I look forward to hearing your stories!

Let's start the day with a smile and a dose of freedom. Happy Selfie Saturday!

Morticia's Selfie Saturday: Freedom on Wheels

Happy Selfie Saturday!

Ciao Kakao
Eure Morticia 🚗

At one time, this was the prevailing attitude of most people in cultures and societies which relied on automobiles. It was even a rite of passage for many people to get a driver's license (with or without the automobile as a birthday gift). A case can be made that the most important Hollywood movie since 1970 was not science fiction's Star Wars but rather car culture's American Graffiti because the box office success of AG made SW possible several years later. That's how important automobiles had been.

Since the 1990s, this attitude had been educated out of style only to be replaced by an attitude of burdens: the automobiles became too expensive to maintain and repair; finding parking is a hassle; the transformation of automobiles from tools of freedom to tools of surveillance; etc. Despite astounding progress in emissions reductions from 1970s levels and increased fuel economy, the prevailing culture-- even in the United States-- is one of seeing automobiles as a hassle to be avoided.

With automobiles being considered as massive ankle monitors rather than as tools of freedom and liberation, it's falling to motorcycles to help us maintain that uplifting and hopeful attitude we used to have toward automobiles.
