The year is 2023 and my girlfriend has never been to Berlin, which is actually one of the standard school trips for students. Incidentally, this was also my first time in Berlin. That was about 13 years ago. We stayed in a hostel for a week and took the U2 to the city center. I remember the Blue Man Group, the Reichstag building, the Berlin Wall, the Olympic Stadium, Check Point Charlie and a club called the Matrix. Yes, our teachers actually took us to a "club". There was a "party" there especially for students and anyone older than 16 was even allowed to have a beer. :D

So now I was already in Berlin and my girlfriend wasn't yet - I had to go to Berlin for work and of course I took her with me - as a student you can do spontaneous things like that.

For some reason, my girlfriend doesn't associate or didn't associate many positive things with Berlin. Her image is shaped by social media and other testimonials. According to her, Berlin is "always full of cool things" - on TikTok you often see how Berlin changes people. I'm talking about their style of dress and attitude to life. You see young women who are initially dressed "normally", and after a year in Berlin they're walking around with colorful hair, studded collars and semi-transparent clothes. I don't really care how people dress, everyone dresses the way they like and feel comfortable as long as they don't pull other people in. Berlin was actually quite unspectacular in terms of encounters. I only felt queasy once when a man who was obviously on some kind of substance discovered my camera and started following me around. He kept saying: "Ey, camera! Professional professional!" - "Ey Camera! Professional Professional" and came closer and closer to me. This went on for almost 3 minutes and was at Alexanderplatz at 10 a.m. But I think you have something like this in every major city.

The subways were comparatively clean and tidy compared to the ones I'm used to in Cologne. I know from friends who live in Berlin that they constantly complain about the subway and that it takes "hours" to get from A to B. I couldn't confirm that. I couldn't confirm this, on the contrary, I had the feeling that it was quite easy to get from A to B considering the size of the city. The trains run frequently and there are almost always several ways to get to one place. The 49€ ticket was therefore a good investment. (For those not from Germany, the 49€ ticket is a government-subsidized train and bus ticket that allows you to travel second class on all buses and trains throughout Germany for 49€ a month, except ICE (express train)).

Most of these were taken from the train and on the track. On the cover picture you can see me and my girlfriend, how we discovered ourselves in the camera for the train driver. There's no such thing here in Cologne, where the train driver has to make do with a mirror. On the train itself, most of the windows have the Brandenburg Gate logo, which looks nice, but once you've had your fill of it, it sometimes gets in the way when looking out and when taking photos anyway.

During my time in Berlin, I took several hundred photos, which I will sift through over time. At the moment I'm a bit short of time because of the Christmas business at work, so I'm doing everything step by step. I hope you like the photos.

Wir schreiben das Jahr 2023 und meine Freundin war noch nie in Berlin, eigentlich gehört das zu den Standard Klassenfahrten für Schüler. Auf die Art und Weise bin übrigens auch ich zum ersten Mal in Berlin gewesen. Das ist jetzt so ungefähr 13 Jahre her. Untergekommen sind wir in einem Hostel für eine Woche und sind mit der U2 ins Zentrum gefahren. Ich erinnere mich an die Blue Man Group, das Reichstagsgebäude, Berliner Mauer, das Olympia Stadion, Check Point Charlie und einen Club namens Matrix. Ja unsere Lehrer sind tatsächlich mit uns in einen "Club" gegangen. Dort gab es extra für Schüler eine "Party" und jeder der älter als 16 war, durfte sogar ein Bier haben. :D

Jetzt war ich also schon in Berlin und meine Freundin noch nicht - beruflicher Natur musste ich nach Berlin und hab sie dann natürlich mitgenommen - als Studentin kann man solche spontanen Sachen durchaus machen.

Aus irgendeinem Grund verbindet bzw. verband meine Freundin mit Berlin nicht viele positive Dinge. Ihr Bild ist dabei geprägt von Social Media und anderen Erfahrungsberichten. Laut ihr passen in Berlin "immer voll die krassen Sachen" - auf TikTok sieht man auch mal häufiger wie Berlin Leute verändert. Dabei meine ich jetzt den Kleidungsstil und die Einstellung zum Leben. Man sieht junge Frauen die zunächst "normal" gekleidet sind, und nach einem Jahr Berlin bunte Haare, Halsband mit Nieten und halbdurchsichtigenen Klamotten rumlaufen. Mir ist relativ egal wie Leute sich kleiden, jeder so wie er mag und sich wohlfühlt solang er andere Leute damit nicht reinzieht.
Tatsächlich war Berlin recht unspektakulär was Begegnungen anging. Mir wurde nur einmal mulmig, als ein Mann der offensichtlich auf irgendwelchen Substanzen war, meine Kamera entdeckte und anfing mir nachzulaufen. Dabei sagte er immer wieder: "Ey, Camera! Professional Professional!" - "Ey Camera! Professional Professional" und kam dabei mal mehr mal weniger nah an mich ran. Das ging ungelogen fast 3 Minuten so und war beim Alexanderplatz um 10 Uhr morgens.
Glaube aber, so etwas hat man in jeder größeren Stadt.

Die U-Bahnen sind vergleichsweise recht sauber und ordentlich gewesen im Vergleich zu denen die ich aus Köln gewohnt bin. Von Freunden die in Berlin wohnen, weiss ich das diese sich ständig über die U-Bahn beschweren und dass man "Stunden" brauch um von A nach B zu kommen. Das Ganze konnte ich nicht bestätigen, ganz im Gegenteil, ich hatte das Gefühl auf die Größe der Stadt recht gut von A nach B zu kommen. Die Bahnen fahren häufig, und es gibt fast immer mehrere Möglichkeiten an einen Ort zu kommen. Dass 49€ Ticket, war hier also eine gute Investition. (Für alle die nicht aus Deutschland kommen, dass 49€ Ticket ist ein von der Regierung gefördertes Bahn und Bus Ticket, mit dem man für 49€ im Monat, in ganz Deutschland mit allen Busen und Bahnen in der zweiten Klasse fahren kann, ausgenommen ICE (Schnellzug).)

Die sind größtenteils aus der Bahn heraus entstanden und am Gleis. Auf dem Titelbild sieht man mich und meine Freundin, wie wir uns selber in der Kamera für den Zugführer entdeckt haben. Bei uns in Köln gibt es so etwas nicht, da muss der Zugführer sich mit einem Spiegel zufrieden geben. Im Zug selber haben die meisten Scheiben, das Logo vom Brandenburger Tor, sieht schön aus, wenn man sich aber dran satt gesehen hat, stört es manchmal beim rausschauen und beim fotografieren sowieso.

Während meiner Zeit in der Berlin, habe ich einige hundert Fotos gemacht, die ich mit der Zeit sichten werden. Aktuell fehlt mir wegen dem Weihnachtsgeschäft auf der Arbeit etwas die Zeit, also mach ich alles Schritt für Schritt. Ich hoffe die Fotos gefallen euch.
