You Have A Marketing Problem
Hey JessInternet Marketers
I've been a marketer for a few years now in relative terms most people in the industry would say I'm a baby and I should shut the fuck up and learn and I've been trying to do that but it's so hard when people don't understand how marketing works and always point a figure at it.
This is not to say most marketers are liars and charlatans not offering value, because there are a large portion of that in the industry giving us an even worse reputation than we already have, so you're always going to be judged harshly or unfairly, that's the nature of the game.
As a marketer, you are a necessary evil, companies only employee and pay you because they have to, not because they want to and if possible you'd be the first expense they would cut out. Marketing is a grind and no one wants to do it but it works that's why we still have jobs.

A marketers job is unforgiving
I often joke that a marketer knows they're doing their job when the boss or client doesn't ever speak to them, when goals are being hit you'll never hear a peep you a forgotten entity but as soon as things are tough you are seen as the blocker holding the company back. Marketers are pieces of shit that are only going to take your money and leech of your business that's it.
I mean when the sales are coming, clearly the marketing must be easy any idiot can do it right? The product is so awesome it basically markets itself so what do we pay you for?
When the sales are down, clearly you suck at your job our product is awesome, so what are we paying you for?
That's basically the two situations you'll be in and both of them are not the most pleasant situations I can only say so from my personal experience
Marketing is always the problem
When sales are down or growing but they want more its marketings fault. It's not the right messaging, not the right target audience, not the right frequency, not the right reach, not right content, look its all the wrong way of doing things.
Never in my years of marketing has it ever been the product that was the problem, the aftersales service, the delivery of the product, the quality of the product, the longevity of the product, the competitors having a better product, the economic factors, the target market, the changing landscape of needs and as people age.
No its none of that, never has and never will be, it's only marketing! Marketing sucks so if you're keen to be seen as a problem at all times, become a marketer.
Have your say
What do you good people of steem think? Do you think we've overestimated things? Are we living on too much fake money or speculative value?

So you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. No respite for the people driving the business.
There are many misconceptions about marketing and the importance of it. Like you, I'm also interested in marketing and I'm also a baby but in the short period I've been studying trends and behaviours, I can categorically say that Marketing is the backbone of any successful business. "The product sells itself" is just a myth that people who can't afford quality marketing use to console themselves.
You will meet all kinds when it comes to marketing I think it’s the one job everyone has an opinion on! One of my managers told me don’t take it to seriously everyone is a marketer and can do it better than you!
I had a marketing job once and quit after one month. In Nigeria, they want us to do door to door marketing and that's some bullshit I'm not getting into
lol one of my first jobs was kinda the same door to door but not consumers but businesses! Lasted a month and I was like this isn’t for me I’m going to get my degree lol
Lol that was probably for the best. That job made me respect marketers. Shit ain't easy.
Maybe your market is running out of unsecured credit to buy stuff you don't necessarily need or to impress friends you don't have. Time for helicopter cash from the government! Print!

Or your competitors are recipients of free money hoping to get “scale” in the future and can happily take on losses to steal away customers! But that can’t be it’s marketing’s fault
Marketing is a thankless job - not unlike motherhood lol :D
Lol well I can’t imagine how hard it must be to do a mom and a marketer, good luck maintaining any sort of sanity
HAHAHA! Sanity?! Waved goodbye to that ten years ago eh! ;)
Great post and marketing reality slap in the face... :)
Thanks for sharing :)

It’s definitely one of those jobs no one gives a second thought about and since it’s not seen as hard the mental strain it takes on people is often discounted
