NOT THE WORLD I KNOW

I awoke this morning and started off with doing my everyday duties. Hunger descended and I fixed myself something to eat. I got done, rested little and felt it necessary to bathe. As usual, I had to pick out my outfit

My closet has this chest I always ignored were my no-longer-in-use stuff was kept. I open it to see all the stuff there littered.
In one swift dig, I have them all thrown down. Was time I did some cleanup.

I go down on the bare floor and start to pick the items one after another and place them in, neatly. Was picking up this shoebox when a hand held my wrist. I froze. For all I knew, I was home alone.
I turned to look at who it was that had gotten in unnoticed but rather than a face, the blinding light filtering in through the windows hit my eyes. From getting dizzy and seeing stars, the room grew dark and I blanked out

The noise from some sound system startled me. Something was amiss tho. Rather than my room, I was in some sort of carnival, all too unfamiliar. I could see people at different corners. Some looking just as confused as me. I walked towards this crowd were a young lady was speaking.
"...explore and enjoy!" she ended.

The crowd dispersed but I stood transfixed at that spot, taking in the whole place and wondering what strange place I had gotten in.

"Hey, are you alright?," the lady from the crowd was looking smilingly at me.

"Yes...No, I'm not. Where's this place?, I asked.

"Relax! Since you're here, you can as well find out for yourself," she replied

"Ummm, h-how...?, I stuttered.

Just before I could finish, someone came and whisked her away. I was left alone.

In the space in front of me, there was some building with the inscription "Cafe Bank"

Exactly what I needed to steady my nerves. A drink, Some coffee.

I walked into the building. It was a small space with tables and chairs. I walked behind the room which revealed a vast space that was the kitchen. I asked this elderly man there who was looking into the cupboards for coffee. He pointed in the direction of the sink. I thought he hadn't heard me so I asked again.

"You want coffee, yeah? Turn on the tap and serve yourself," he told me, I could tell he was irritated.

What exactly was wrong with the people here.

Since he wasn't of no help, I decided I could drink some water, first.
I turned on the tap, but rather than water, some colored liquid which I could tell from the aroma was coffee came running. I jumped. I ran out immediately and found the girl from earlier sitting at a corner of the room, patting her hair. "The, th-the tap. Please come," I stuttered
I dragged her into the kitchen and pointed at the running tap

"What? What's wrong? That's coffee," She answered bewildered.

"That's the problem. That should be wa..."

"Water? Does water flow in the taps Go by the store and get yourself water if you want some."

"Wait! What are you even saying? What's happening here?"

"Just relax. I felt same way when I newly got here Over here, coffee is what you know water to be."

"How is that so? I don't understand"

"I don't understand either, I just found myself here and I like it. That's the flow of things here and you better get used to it. I'm out."

I opened my mouth, stunned. I turned off the still running tap, turned it on again. I got a cup and fetched some for myself. This was certainly coffee, as perfect. I stared into the cup and a small smile played along my lips.

This was a reality. This should be fun. Coffee fairies are probably rewarding me for loving it so much. I can always gets cups as much as I want. I settled in on the nearest seat and let out a yawn. I was tired and thirsty. Taking some sip from my coffee did not help. I was almost full with it

Got up to fetch some water from the tap and I remembered what things had become. I went across the street to the store to get water. "Give me a minute to get it ready," the attendant told me.

"Get what ready? Water? Just give me a bottle, please."

"I have to brew it. It's not ready yet. Sit around and wait."

I was perplexed. Brew water? Where was this weird place? How did I get here even?

Finally my water was ready. One gulp, and i felt very refreshed. I only then realized how equally sweet water is. i thought of how long I will last with having to brew water before bath and wash and drinking. Heck! The thought alone made my heart ache. I missed the basicity of it I could cry. Already I was fed up of the new world.

Walking back to the cafe, I thought about how often I'd be running to the store and standing in line for water. I gulp water plenty of times a day and I don't know how I'd last in this new world. I needed an escape. It was cute to have coffee at will but water was far more essential. I wanted out. I preferred to have coffee the way I was used to. How do I get back to the world I know?

I walked back to the seat I had occupied earlier and fell asleep. Some distant voices woke me up. I opened my eyes to find Maggie, my cousin, towering over me, a worried look on her face.
.
Realizing where I was, I ran to a tap, turned it on and water came running. "A dream...just a dream," I said in relief.

Water is really important and can't be replaced by coffee. They're two drinks with different purpose, thank goodness it was just a dream.
