A Mini 5-A-Side Battle

In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Five Alive ruleset and see what strategy works when only up to five units can be used in battle.

For this battle, I've gone with Alric Stormbringer as my summoner because I want to use some powerful Water cards and Alric is my strongest summoner. It would have been even better if Summoners weren't Silenced for the +1 magic damage bonus.

1st position - The Kraken - A tank to absorb all my opponent's attacks. A lot of health and a bit of shield so it will take some time to wear down.
2nd position - Djinn Oshannus - Fast magic attack with void and a lot of health.
3rd position - Phantom of the Abyss - Very fast attack and does 3 magic damage even without a boost.
4th position - Ruler of the Seas - The OG Explosive attacker. A +1 magic boost makes it formidable but even without it, should be decent unless the opponent uses Void.
5th position - Riverboat Captain - An imitation of the Ruler of the Seas with less health, slower attack. Still decent damage done to two units.

My general strategy for Five Alive is to stuff the lineup with as many fast and heavy damage attackers as possible. With one less spot on the lineup, I feel this concentration is better than to tinker with abilties.

When I looked at my opponent's lineup, I could sense victory because I had the advantage in magic attacks and speed.

By round 2, I had killed my opponent's two strongest attackers while I still had 4 strong attackers with a decent speed advantage. Just a matter of time, surely.

And so by the start of round 4, victory was mine. You can catch a replay of the entire battle here: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_595940317e95967fa2e17258f51e5620&ref=charcoalbuffet

With only 5 units on the battlefield, I feel that combining abilities is less important than just stuffing strong attackers with good health as much as Mana allows. How do you play these 5 a side battles?

Took out the costal sentry before it could do any damage. Those powerful magic cards were just enough. Found the tactics and stuck to the Ruleset. To be honest, this particular Ruleset is one of my least favorite.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of limiting the number of units. It's quite a big change... I wonder if they'll ever introduce a tag team battle with only 2 cards.

They might, who knows maybe even with only one cards. They're introducing a lot of ruleset in short periods

Thanks for sharing! - @cieliss

Your battle was great, however, I think you could have added more important details about what you thought of to set your strategy.
