Alzheimer's. CCC's Street Art Contest #151

Hi my friends,

Almost all of us know a case of this disease, Alzeimer's, and we all know how difficult it is for the person who suffers from it to gradually forget things and gradually become more and more unable to carry out such basic tasks as getting out of bed or going to the toilet when one has to relieve oneself.

A few minutes ago, when I was going from the hotel where I am staying in Ibi (Alicante-Spain) to the restaurant where I have been having dinner these days that I have been in this town, I came across this mural that has moved me.

First of all, the sentence on the right hand side of the mural which says "Alzheimer's may erase memories, but not feelings" has touched my heart, reminding me of several acquaintances who have gone through the disease and how in moments of lucidity their faces light up with a child's smile when they see you. And that smile that I remember is precisely the message of the mural emphasising feelings.

Focusing on the mural, you can see the drawing of an elderly person dressed in pyjamas and slippers playing with paper aeroplanes. What a good representation of Alzheimer's the artist who painted the mural has had, because it reminds me of my childhood, when at home, dressed in my pyjamas, I used to play in my parents' living room with whatever entertainment I had at hand, such as making paper aeroplanes.

Another very important point of the mural is that the background is represented by several puzzle pieces perfectly placed with each other. In my opinion, this is a hidden message about the neuronal connectivity of the brain of a person with Alzheimer's disease, in which we must not forget that they are above all people with feelings, although unfortunately their memories are failing them.

Finally, I would like to point out that the mural is located in Carrer Empedrat next to the local church and there was no signature from the author of the mural.

Came across with the "honorable mention" in the StreetArt Contest! What a great theme that you have found! I really like this type of street art, that take our thoughts and ideas to the real world problems. Great content, @castri-ja !
