HIVE Tribes Suffer a Single Point of Failure

This is a Burn Post about POB. I use the rewards to buy and burn coins. I created the image with NightCafe.

HIVE-Engine Tribes appear to suffer from a single point of failure. That point of failure is the central account that owns the "HIVE Community," the coin and the domain name for the tribe.

When the person who owns the name becomes tired of HIVE or, even worse, when the person who owns the account that created a coin becomes resentful that the tribe is not returning a high rate of return the owner expected, the tribe fails.

#POB recently lost its primary domain name. That was bad but was not a great problem because there are other domains like ProofOfBrain.blog and VYbrainium.com that reward the #POB keyword.

The terminal loss for a Tribe comes when the tribe stops paying the tribal rewards.

It appears that CTP stopped paying rewards and #POB has become sporadic in paying its rewards.

So, I thought I would drop a post to discuss the reward paying mechanism for the tribes and ways that #HIVE-Engine could assure the payment of the rewards after the creator of the account loses interest.

How Exactly Does HE Pay Rewards?

As I understand, there are two mechanisms for distributing rewards: The first was called "ScotBot" and the second is called "Smart Contracts" or SMT for short.

The Rewards Page on HIVE Engine shows the coins that use ScotBot to distribute coins. If you press the "claim all" button at the bottom of the page and wait a couple hours, you will find that the system pays the rewards for many of the coins.

Some the rewards simply hang as unclaimed.

The fact that some coins hang begs the questions:

  • What exactly is the mechanism used by ScotBot to distribute the coins?

  • Is there anything that members of a tribe can do to unclog the token stream?

I assume that there is some sort of coin pool and that the rewards come from that pool.

Are the pools filled by minting new coins?

What can members of tribe do to assure that the pools stay full after the person who created the tribe moves on to more lucrative Web 3.0 schemes?

How Do Smart Contracts Work?

I have yet to figure out the smart contracts.

Is There a Configuration Page for Smart Contracts?

I've asked this question before but have never received a response.

Seriously, how are people to take our smart contracts seriously if the members of a tribe can't see the flippin' contract.

I've been looking at HIVE-Engine as a long term investment, but how can anyone make a long term investment on a platform that has disturbing history of coins failing?

What Happened to POB?

The last post on proofofbrainio, dated January 28, 2023, says that POB was moving from ScotBot to SMT.

Obviously a difficulty occurred.

The tribe lost its domain. The rewards appear to be stuck.

HIVE-Engine Explorer shows that the account is still receiving tokens. The POB trail shows that it is still voting on posts (this could be purely automated). The account hasn't had any transactions.

Burning Some VYB

The @buynburn account uses the HIVE and HBD it earns on posts to buy and later burn HE coins.

I was going to burn some POB for this post, but I decided to burn 1142 VYB instead. HE says this is worth 1.42 HIVE or $0.588 USD.

Just like POB, I don't know if the #VYB tribe is still vibrant or is just coasting on empty. The lack of interest in the tribe's coin indicates that VYB is coasting on empty.

Regardless, the HIVE-Engine team needs to figure out how to move our HIVE Engine tokens beyond this dystopia where the tribes can collapse because of a single points of failure.
