Steem Not Everything Is As It Appears

If you didn't know Hive is a hard fork or really the original vision of what steem should have been. But through an aggressive take over by exchanges and one Justin Sun Hive was born and became stronger than ever ushering in the flippening during the last bull run.

Since then Hive has remained dominate in price that was until a few hours ago when steem shot up to 32 cents and started to push towards the price of hive once again.

What you don't know is the pure manipulation and scams that now go on, on the steem blockchain are unreal! It's mainly propped up by the TRX tokens as a bonus reward (of which often seem to get "stuck" and doesn't issue any new tokens for months at a time) on top of that it's got a bunch of weird so called DeFi spaces which are totally manipulated offering up weird tokens that are connect to Binance mainly or TRX tokens. It's the biggest circle jerk scam feast I've seen in a long time.

On top of that it still has a major issue with bot voting and is primarily what the platform is now all about. No one actully posts anything of real value over there anymore and even if they did chance of it getting noticed are slim to none.

The Corruption

You can see this corruption first hand now as much of the steem power has been consolidated into a few accounts that wait for the right moment and then just dump droves of money.

Just take a look at the last 24 hours but really the last two hours and you'll clearly see this in action.

Roughly $100,000 was traded in a flash in a hard sell off and it looks to be from the exchange upbit which is our fan favorite a South Korean exchange. Will we see that money injected into Hive instead? Who knows as no matter how transparent things are there's often a hard time trying to track it down when it's been moved many of places.

In any case let me just put this out there. Steem is NOT the platform you want to be on or investing into. The sheer amount of games and corruption on that blockchain are enough to make it eventually come crashing down to zero. But those few at the top continue to try to milk it over and over again.

Expanding

One of the biggest things Hive has going for itself is that the constant development work is pushing hive into being able to do a lot more then what the original chain once did.

We have seen a few layer 2 tokens actully make something of themselves such as POB, LEO, NEOXIAN and a number of games actully bring value and build the ecosystem up.

One of the coolest things I want to see happen here on the Hive blockchain will be smart contracts. It's been talked about a lot for the core devs but honestly my hopes are up on them producing one ever including a layer two solution so I think it's time we start supporting others.

The proposal by @vaultec which you can view here VSC DHF Proposal seems like a very solid place to start. By having a quality smart contract on the Hive blockchain it's going to open it up to huge new possibilities in which I personally feel hive has fallen behind on. Things like real NFTs, smart contracts, wrapping, Defi and more.

I think it's critical we start building these things so developers have more common place tools to work with and build on the hive blockchain. If you feel the same I highly encourage you to go vote on that proposal.

There is so much happening on hive right now to be optimistic about and I am still surprised why some people will still decide to be on steem instead of hive even now

I don't think anyone would want to invest in steem and power up unless if it is just for a short term gain. Like you said, it certainly involve some manipulations. What is the driving force behind the sudden surge of steem price. Could we say it is as a result of btc effect. Being on Hive is where true decentralization lies. Where no one is at the center controlling things.

Completely agree with you about Steem: it is a platform with no future, no development and no utility!
I have always thought that the absence of smart contracts is a major absence on Hive and I gladly voted for vsc's proposal!

I haven't been keeping up with Steemit for a while.
You sound like you are, and that's good.
I am sorry to hear about the bots and circle jerking.
I recently read an article about Odessey as the largest Social Media Platform on a blockchain, with 11 million monthly active users, said to be unique accounts. Very impressive, but it's based on the LBRY protocol, so it's future is unclear. Apparent over 33 million files are stored there, as the largest decentraalized filing system in the world.
I mention it here because the same article listed the top 15 social media platforms on a blockchain, and while HIve was it at number 11, Steemit was on there as Number 2 !
And according to the CoinGecko author, Steemit has 3 million unique monthly users.
So now I am wondering if some of those unique monthly users are Bots?
Do you think Steemit has really grown that large?
