I got the job

All the waiting technically paid off and I'm pleased to say that I got the call I was waiting for. My interview was successful and this week Tuesday, I'll be starting my role as a customer service agent.

I believe that by now you must have noticed that I have not publicly revealed specifics about where I work and it is for good reason. To be on the safe side, I always operate like there's a non disclosure agreement between me and the company.

I do it this way because I regularly write about my experience at my place of employment and I don't want what I say to have any implication on the company. As long as I'm not contracted to promote the company on my page and it is not a decentralized or pseudo-decentralized company like Splinterlands, I will not be name dropping.

That said, what I will say is that I will be working for a company that has thousands of branches spread across the UK. This is important to add because during the course of my time with the company, I'll be filling in at different branches in Nottingham. However, my extra good news is that my primary assignment will be at a branch that's a short walk from my house.

It is safe to say that I'm excited and eager to get going. My body is currently still suffering from the pain incurred at my shift last week and my back, in particular will be very grateful for this employment. On top of that, I also feel feverish like I'm going to be sick or already sick and it is possibly due to lack of sleep after walking in the cold rain for so many nights.

The customer service job actually pays considerably less than the warehouse job and offers fewer hours but I have to prioritize my physical and mental health over money. That said, I intend to still keep the warehouse job but work fewer hours. Well, that's if they accept to keep me on those terms.

Doing the two

I'll be starting the customer service job this week but I'll fulfil my full time obligations to the warehouse for this week only. My shift for the week starts tonight and I'll talk to my supervisor about halving my hours and possibly squeezing it all into weekends.

If my request for fewer hours is granted, then I'll do the two jobs but if not, I'll simply have no other choice than to walk away from the warehouse job at the end of the week.

At the time of writing, I have already begun my search for another job that will not have back breaking physical demands. I will prefer doing two jobs that don't feel like they're going to kill me but for now, beggars can't be choosers.

I already went for an interview for a care worker role but that one is also on a full time basis and I reckon will certainly be the alternative forgone. I don't know if the right protocol is to withdraw my request or wait for them to call me and then withdraw my request, if I'm offered the role. I don't want to be too forward but at the same time, I don't want to put them in a tight corner because they seem like good people.

Anyway, the plan is to get another job on a part time basis. Considering the requirements of the customer service role, working nights would be ideal for the part time role. I've already gotten a taste of night shift and well, this is the only way to get the hours under my belt.

I am also still waiting for my Deliveroo rider application to be approved. That goes through and I could simply just do it at night to cover as my part time work. It will offer very flexible working hours.

Generally speaking, things are looking good. The job offer has given me renewed energy and I'm ready to take on the new week, despite the accompanying back pain it is sure to come with.

Oh that's great! I hope you make it!
I wrote a post yesterday that includes 4 links to web3 jobs, there are some for social media / community manage etc - so you may want to take a look.
I also got a second job, started September - but have revealed nothing about it :) Not even in my LinkedIn profile. I think its better to withhold info than to over-share.
Take care!
