Talent Tuesday (Portrait of Black Sheriff)
Hello Hello to this awesome FreeCompliments Community.
Today is 'Talent Tuesday' and I want to use the opportunity to share this work of mine I did some months ago.
This a drawing of Black Sheriff - a dope Ghanaian musician.
This drawing was greatly influenced by his music and visual concepts from his musical videos.
Just like most persons, I became a fan after one of his singles 'Kwaku the traveller' blew up and got inspired to make an art when I watched the visuals.
You can feel every expression and energy from his music videos.
I will share the progress shots of this piece below.
Unclear but concious of what I was doing, I wanted to tone down my paper with pencil and leave some strokes.
I sketched Blacko out and the initial plan was to finish this up with only pencil but I switched to pen after the sketch.
This was when I decided to stroke with pen, so I cleaned off the pencil shades.

Here, I wanted something that will depict the energetic nature of KK, so I played around with my brilliant red oil paint on the paper surface.
This was the final stage and I thought again...
I BLOCKED OUT THE WHOLE FREESTYLES.

That was some good stunt I pulled on this one, I really liked the outcome and fast forward to now, I think I like the freestyle own more, it is more expressed and unique.
Well well.. it's already blocked out and I only have the last one as the real piece which fortunately or unfortunately my five years old niece entered my room alone one day, reached out for this big drawing pad without being scared scribbled over some pages with a blue pen and yes she scribbled over this drawing too and an oil colour portrait painting on canvas and she actually knew where the eyes and highlights where situated, and and.. I came in when she was already done.
Actually she was teaching the younger one of 3 years old how to draw, maybe - maybe not 😂😂 mehnn and tiredd...
Some months later.. I made her a digital drawing before her birthday in June (16th)
Here's the cute lady.
Trust me she was really excited when she saw the picture from her Mom's phone. I haven't seen them for like five months now. The Mom told me she said that I promised I will draw her and I later did 😄 and you should know the next thing... The younger one wasn't happy, she did cry but but she will still forget it - you know how the kids do when you console them

Loving the contrast of black/white and red here! It's very fitting.
Now, because I genuinely like your work so much, I really looked closely at the details, and am nitpicking. Something about the subject's right face (left side on the portrait) seemed a bit off, so I found the reference picture. It's clear that you used totally different lighting to decent effect, but I also saw that the right face seems a little bit low (going from the ear down to the jaw, inclusive of the cheekbone, and very subtly the eye) compared to the left face, even when considering the tilt of the head. But again, nitpicking... Black Sheriff is easily recognizable, which means that you know what you're doing.

Woo, that was some good nitpicking there. When I started I already knew I had some problem with the head tilt but I ignored it..then when I finished I kept seeing that mistake on that left eye which happens each time I look at it till date lol.. the eye is a bit tight, I ought to have created some soft edges around the area but my pen was too stiff there. In general, I like the strokes.
