Whe The banks noticed that the strategy was success they initially used the tactic to attract customers, but they didn't think of the outcome it was going to bring in the long run. Or perhaps they did but still implied it to create more users for their credit cards.
I remember a time when these credit card companies were after people compelling them to make cards. My father had 3 cards because these companies were not ready to leave him until he got agreed to make one.
