Larry Is Alive 27 April 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for saturday, the 27th day of April, 2024. It's been a day of draws for most teams in the EPL today. Liverpool suffered another title damaging defeat in their (2-2) draw with WestHam United earlier today. Manchester United played a (1-1) draw with Burnley at Old Trafford and Chelsea also played out a (2-2) draw with Aston Villa.

The biggest wins today came from the Toons (Newcastle United) who beat Sheffield United (5-1) at St James' Park. That defeat has ultimately confirmed the relegation of Sheffield United to the championship. Too bad for them.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Sierra Leone. He finds out that on this day in 1961, Sierra Leone, which had previously been a British colony and protectorate, gained independence within the British Commonwealth, with Sir Milton Margai serving as the first prime minister. Happy independence anniversary to them.

From Sierra Leone, Larry goes to the Vatican City. He finds out that on this day in 2014, Pope John Paul II was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI.

From the Vatican City, Larry goes to Togo. He finds out that on this day in 1960, Togo gained independence from the French Union after serving as an autonomous republic for several years. Happy independence anniversary to them.

From Togo, Larry goes to the world of inventors and inventions. He finds out that on this day in 1791, Samuel F.B. Morse, an American painter who invented the electric telegraph and the Morse Code, was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts.

From the world of inventors and inventions, Larry goes to Ghana. He finds out that on this day in 1972, Kwame Nkrumah, a Ghanaian nationalist leader who spearheaded the Gold Coast's independence from Britain and presided over its formation as the new nation of Ghana died in Bucharest, Romania. He led the country from its inception in 1957 until his assassination in 1966 by a coup.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from England. He finds out that on this day in 1938, Edmund Husserl, a German philosopher who founded Phenomenology, a method for describing and analysing consciousness that aims to give philosophy the character of a precise science, died in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
