Larry Is Alive #228 January 01, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge HPUD For January 2024

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Monday the 1st day of January, 2024. Happy new year everyone. This is my first Larry hunt for the year. It is also the #HPUD. In today's hunt report, I will be incorporating my #PUD activity to my hunt for Larry.

The EPL matches continues today with Liverpool hosting Newcastle United at Anfield. It is not going to be an easy match for the Reds as the Toon Army (as Newcastle United is fondly called) has been a standout team so far, albeit some inconsistent performances. It is half time now and it stands goalless (0-0). Let's see how the game will end.

Larry veers off at halftime to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Europe. He finds out that on this day in 2002, On this day in 2002, the euro, the European Union's monetary unit, was founded with the issuance of both currency and coins, and by March 2002, it had become the sole legal tender of participating member states.

From Europe, Larry goes to the world of international organizations. He finds out that on this day in 1995, the World Trade Organization was formally established with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

From the world of international organizations, Larry goes to North America. He finds out that on this day in 1994, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) went into effect, removing most tariffs and other trade barriers between the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

From North America, Larry goes to Cuba. He finds out that on this day in 1959, after his administration was overthrown by rebel troops led by Fidel Castro, dictator Fulgencio Batista fled Cuba.

From Cuba, Larry goes to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1808, the Act Prohibiting the Importation of Slaves went into effect in the United States, outlawing the slave trade; despite this, slavery persisted throughout the nation.

From USA, Larry goes to Haiti. He finds out that on their day in 1804, Haiti declared its independence from France.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from France. He finds out that on this day in 1956, Christine Lagarde is a French lawyer and politician who served as France's finance minister from 2007 to 2011, as managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 2011 to 2019, and as president of the European Central Bank (2019 - date) was born in Paris, France.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
