Larry Is Alive 22 April 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for monday, the 22nd day of April, 2024. The lethargic win of Man United over Conventry has left many to wonder if truly they will win the FA Cup. In the final minute of extra time, Coventry thought they had become the first Championship side to reach the FA Cup final since 2008, but the VAR disallowed their goal. The Sky Blues led the penalty shootout at one point but ultimately lost it. Congratulations to Manchester United for winning anyway.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from France. He finds out that on this day in 1370, construction began on the Bastille, the mediaeval castle that became synonymous with French despotism.

From France, Larry goes to the world of voyage and discovery. He finds out that on this day in 1500, during a trip tracing Vasco da Gama's 1497-99 maritime route to India, Portuguese explorer Pedro Álvares Cabral discovered the mainland of South America near the present-day city of Pôrto Seguro, Brazil.

From the world of voyage and discovery, Larry goes to Germany. He finds out that on this day in 1724, German philosopher Immanuel Kant was born in Königsberg, Prussia (now Kaliningrad, Russia).

From Germany, Larry goes to Russia. He finds out that on this day in 1870, Vladimir Ilich Lenin—who founded the Bolshevik political faction (1912-17), inspired and led the Bolshevik Revolution (1917), governed the Soviet state (1917-24), and established the Comintern (Communist International)—was born.

From Russia, Larry goes to the events of the WWI. He finds out that on this day in 1800, during World War I, German forces launched the systematic use of chemical warfare by releasing chlorine gas over a 4-mile (6-kilometer) front at the Second Battle of Ypres.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Brazil. He finds out that on this day in 1982, Kaká, a Brazilian football (soccer) player who was voted World Player of the Year by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) in 2007 was born in Brasília, Brazil.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
