Larry Is Alive 21 April 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for sunday, the 21st day of April, 2024. Manchester United almost crashed out of the FA Cup today when they played against Coventry in the second semi-final. Having led (3-0) up to the 70th minute, Coventry doggedly clawed back three goals to draw level and take the game to penalties where they lost (2-4) to Manchester United. Man United will now face Manchester City at the finals.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from France. He finds out that on this day in 2002, extremist Jean-Marie Le Pen challenged French President Jacques Chirac for reelection in the first round of presidential vote, but Chirac easily defeated him two weeks later to earn a second term.

From France, Larry goes to the world of car music and entertainment. He finds out that on this day in 2016, Prince, an American singer who pioneered the fusion of funk, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, and pop and was one of the biggest artists of the 1980s and 1990s, died at age 57 of an accidental overdose of fentanyl, a potent opioid.

From the world of music and entertainment, Larry goes to Jamaica. He finds out that on this day in 1966, the Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie I, who many Rastas believe to represent the Second Coming of Christ, paid a visit to Jamaica, which is now celebrated yearly as Grounation Day in Rastafari.

From Jamaica, Larry goes to England. He finds out that on this day in 1830, James Starley, the inventor and father of the bicycle industry, was born in Albourne, Sussex, England.

From England, Larry goes to Egypt. He finds out that on this day in 1800, French forces led by General Jean-Baptiste Kléber recaptured Cairo, launching a brief French occupation of Egypt.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from England. He finds out that on this day in 1926, Elizabeth II who served as Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from February 6, 1952, until September 8, 2022 was born in London, England.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
