Larry Is Alive #172 October 25, 2023: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Wednesday the 25th day of October, 2023. Manchester United played against FC Copenhagen in their third champions league match and managed to win by a lone goal. They were however thankful to their goalkeeper Onana who saved a last minute spot kick to ensure that the 'Red Devils' ran away with all three points.

Yesterday however, Newcastle United were not all that lucky. They slumped to a (1-0) home defeat to Borussia Dortmund. After watching these matches, Larry turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1982, under President Ronald Reagan, the United States military invaded Grenada, a tiny island republic.

From the USA, Larry moves over to the Korean war. He finds out that on this day in 1950, China entered the Korean War on the side of North Korea against South Korea and the United Nations (UN), with the United States serving as the UN's primary participant.

From the Korean war, Larry goes back to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1940, American military commander Benjamin O. Davis, Sr. was promoted to Brigadier General. He thus became the first African American general in the United States Army.

From the USA, Larry goes to the world of music and entertainment. He finds out that on this day in 1984, Katy Perry, whose original name was Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson
an American pop singer best known for a string of anthemic and frequently sexually suggestive hit songs, as well as a cartoonish sense of style was born in Santa Barbara, California, U.S.A.

Larry enjoys Katy Perry songs and will be gad to drop two of his favourites for your viewing pleasure. The first one is titled "ROAR".

From the world of music and entertainment, Larry goes to Ethiopia. He finds out that on this day in 1973, Abebe Bikila, marathon runner who won a gold medal and set a world record while racing barefoot in Rome in 1960, then broke his own record in Tokyo in 1964. He was the first person in history to win two Olympic marathons. Abebe Bikila died on this day in 1973 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

From Ethiopia, Larry moves to Denmark. He finds out that on this day in 1928, Peter Naur, a Danish astronomer and computer scientist who received the A.M. Turing Award in 2005 for "fundamental contributions to programming language design and the definition of Algol 60, compiler design, and the art and practice of computer programming" was born in Frederiksberg, Denmark.

A.M. Turing Award is often referred to as the computer science equivalent of the Nobel Prize.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history from the Germany. He finds out that on this day in 1806, Max Stirner, under the pseudonym of Johann Kaspar Schmidt, a German antistatist philosopher whose ideas served as ideological inspiration for many anarchists in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His ideas are frequently seen as a wellspring of twentieth-century existentialism, was born in Bayreuth, Bavaria [Germany].

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
